Be it known that I, Roemer il. Munvnr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and

State of lllinois, have invented certain ynew and useful Improvementsjin Garment Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

. My invention relates to improvements in garment fasteners, andmore particularly 'to the ordinary snap fasteners, the object of the invention being to provide improved means for securing the same in place.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by,

The form of construction illustrated in Figs. 1 to a inclusive comprises a disc 7 of sheet metal and having a central knob 8 adapted to constitute the male member of an ordinary snap fastener. rEhe disc 7 is provided with a securing element adapted and arranged to secure the same to the cloth of a garment or the like. rIhis securing element is made of spring steel wire and has its end portions 9 secured in place on the under side of the disc 7 by means of a backturned securingflange or lip 10 as indicated, the end of said wire being circularly bent to fit under said flange. A loop 11 is formed in said wire to project inwardly and laterally from under the flange 10 as shown. The body of the securing wire is tortuously bent into substantially S form 12 to fit within the flange 10 as shown, and the free end of the wire is provided with a hook 13 adapted to engage the loop 11.

ln use, the body 7 is secured to the cloth 14 of a garment or the like by inserting the hook end 13 of the wire through an opening 15 in the cloth and then twisting the body 7 to force the body 12 of the wire through said open-ing as indicated in Fig. el.. Then the hook end 13 is passed through another opening 16 in the cloth and engaged with the loop 11 thus rmly securing the body 7 in place on the cloth. By this arrangement, a simple and effective means for securing the body 7 to the cloth of a garment or the like is provided. By tortuously bending the securing wire, the effect of a broad bearing or engagement with the cloth is produced, thus clamping, in effect, a considerable area of the cloth against the back of the body 7 and giving said body a wide and secure bearing.

In the modified form of construction, illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, the wire securing element is provided with a slightly different form of hook 13. Otherwise, the construction illustrated is identical with that already described.

`While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying out my invention, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modilications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is z* 1. A device of the class described comprising a body; a securing member therefor in the form of a wire having` one end secured in operativerelation to said body, the free portion of said wire being bent laterally into tortuous formto provide a large engaging surface; and means at the free end of said wire for detach ably securing the same to said body, substantially as described.

2. A device of the class described compris-v ing a body; a securing member therefor in the form of a wire secured at one end to said body and bent into substantially S form surrounded by a circle of wire, and means at the free end of said wire for detachably securing the same in operative relation to said body, substantially as described.

3. A device of the class described comprising a disc made of sheet metal and having a back turned securing flange at its edges; a wire having one end substantially circular in form secured under said flange, the bight Cyn of said Wire being tortuously bent; and means at the free end of said Wire for detachably securing the saine in operative relation to said body7 substantially as described.

A device of the class described comprising a disc made of sheet nietal and having a back turned securing flange at its edges.; a securing member therefor in the iorm of a Wire having one end substantially circular in form secured under said iange, the bight of said Wire being bent into substantially S form; and means at the free end of said Wire for detachably securing the same in operative relation to said body, substantially as described.

5. A device of the class described comprising a disc made of sheet metal and having a back turned securing tlange at its edges; a securing member therefor in the torni oit a Wire having one end substantially circular in form secured under said flange, the bight of said Wire being bent into substantially S form; and a hook at the free end of said Wire, there being a loop formed in the portion of said Wire secured under said flange and arranged and adapted to be engaged by said hook, substantially as described.
