Description

A. D. ADFHANCE.
TOY ARROW. I APPLICATION FILED APR- 5, I921- RENEWED JUNE 911922.
1,23,55 1 a Patented July 25, 1922.
ADEIAN' ID. ADRIANGE, OF BROGKLYT, Jl-TEVV' YDEK.
TOY- AER/ORV.
Application filed April 6, 19m, Serial No. 458,094. Renewed June 9, 1922.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADRIAN D. AnnrANcn, citizen of the United States, and resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Toy Arrow, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to arrows for spring or air guns, spring bows, or how guns, or in an enlarged form can constitute a toy spear or hand arrow.
The object is to present a toy arrow, composed of the fewest number or parts, and provided with a safety pneumatic flexible tip that will make the use of the arrow in and about the home, or against the bod es of others than the user, if struck thereby, harmless and free from shock, that is to say, that the forward force of the arrow is absorbed by the flexible air filled tip of suflicient area to so cushion the blow as to remove all dangerous and undesirable results.
A further object is to provide a novel and simple means of attaching the pneumatic Up or nipple firmly to the shaft of the arrow.
A further object is to furnish a novel means of imprisoning the air in the flexible tip by means of inserting in the neck of the elastic nipple and securely fastening therein the shaft of the arrow.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of one form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of another formand Fig. 3 is a similar view of a third form.
Fig. i is an elevation of one form of the forward end of the arrow shaft.
Figs. 5, 6 and 7 show three forms of the rear end of the arrow shaft.
In Fig. 1 letter a, is a flexible envelope of the nipple; letter 6, is the shaft of the arrow; letter (Z, is the chamber containing the imprisoned air; letter 6, is the contracted neck of the nipple firmly gripping the shaft of the arrow; letter 7, is an enlarged flange running around the end of the nipple to furnish strength to same and to further grip the shaft; letter are the grooves furnished for the purpose of retaining a cohesive cement, used to better securethe nipple to the shaft, and to furnish means of imprisoning the air; letter g, indicates a film of cohesive cement on the inside neck of the nipple, and filling the said grooves, j, of shaft; letter 0, is the presumed point of contact when arrow strikes against an object.
Specification of- Letters Patent.
Patented July 25,- 1922.
Serial No. 56?,234.
In Fig. 2 letter a, is a more or less spherical flexible envelope of the tip; letter Z), is the shaft of the arrow; letter (Z, is the chamber containing the imprisoned air; letter .9, is the contracted hollow neck of the tip firmly gripping the shaft of the arrow; letter f, is an enlarged flange running around the end of the neck to furnish strength to same and to further grip the shaft; letter 9, indicates a film of cohesive cement on the inside of the neck of the tip, securing the tip to the shaft; letter 1', is a wall of the same flexible material and part of the envelope of the tip, thus making this style of tip a more or less spherical chamber containing air with a concentric hollow or tubular neck projecting therefrom.
In Fig. 3 letter a, is a. more or lessspherical, flexible envelope of the tip; letter'b, is the shaft of the arrow; letter (Z, is the chamber containing the imprisoned air; letter h, is asolid tit projecting concentrically outward. and of the same material as the envelope of tip, and is used. to fasten the tip in a. hollow in the end of shaft; letter 9, and letter 2', corresponds with the contraction and the wall as in Figure 2.
Figure 4. is a side elevation of the end of the shaft secured in the nipple of Figure 1; letter j, is a multiple of grooves of any desired shape. provided to furnish means to retain the fastening cement used to better secure the nipple in place, and to imprison the air.
Figures 5, 6, and 7 show three styles of rear end of shaft; letters In and Z, show styles used in air or spring guns; letter m, shows style with groove used in spring bow or how gun.
I do not limit my invention to any particular style or shape of a pneumatic tip, or to any form or method of securing same to shaft, the essential features being that the tips should be flexible and filled with imprisoned air.
Further, I do not limit my invention to the use of any special material, or to any style or shape of the shaft for the arrow, or to the shape of either end of same, as different uses will demand different forms.
Having now explained the nature of and described fully my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is,
A toy arrow comprising a flexible tubular, air filled tip, having an enlarged closed York, in the county of Queens and State of New York, this fourth day of April, A. D.
