Be it known that I, MANLnY CHEW of the town of lllidland 'in the county of Apparatus for Producing Fibei j lipard, of I .l which the following is the specification.

' My invention relates to certain new and ing steam pipes 2 containedin the bottom thereof. This container 1 is filled with chip waste by a suitable conveyor such as is frequently used in saw mills, then water is in troduced into the waste. The heat applied .to thesteain pipes serves to convert the wa ter into steam, which permeates the mass of waste.
The mass of waste is cooked from ten to twenty-four hours depending upon the nature thereof. The steam of course passes through the waste and softens and renders it pliable and workable, Water is then introduced into the mass and it is then. fed by any suitable means to a hopper 3 from whence it is conveyedby a endless chain of buckets t to a hopper 5 at the top of a heater 6, or seriesof heaters. lhe beater I use is the Clafiin beater, although other forms of heaters may be employed.
The water introduwd into the mass more or less floats the waste and converts it into a rough pulplikewatery'condition. In the heaters the mass is so treated that the fibers are separated into very fine. strands, shred- (led yet pulplike in form.
From the beater 6 the pulp is passed by a spout 7 to a spout 8 which conveys it into the cylindrical screening; machine 9, and into the cylindrical mesh screen 10 thereof. From the'vat 21 a pipe 22 extends to the pump 23 whereby the pulp is elevated and pumped by a pipe 24: into the agitating tank 25 which contains aseries of rotary agitators 26 of any desired form such as shown in the drawing with paddles 27. a
By means of the rotary agitators the pulp is kept at a proper and uni orm consistency in the agitating tank or'vat 25. From the agitating tank the pulp is carried by means I of a pipe 27", pump 28 and pipe 29 into a boxlike receptacle 30 having an intermediate 7 bottom 30*. The pulp passes in a stream,
.in the course indicated by arrow, being interrupted in its flow by slats 31 on the intermediate bottom and slats 32011 the actual bottom. 'lhese slats form obstructions so as to caitch anyheavy foreign matter suchgas meta.
Alter thestream passes over the slats the 1 pulpy mass passes along and is precipitated or projected along down a chute of subst'antially a width corresponding to the length of the fiber board. The pulp is fed at such a speed as will induce the filmy mass of pulp to feed over the entire width of the chute in its passage-to the press,-33 which is preferably a hydraulic one. i

From the press the boards are stacked into kilns and dried.
After being thoroughl dried they are treated with a waterproo ng liquid or corn- POSllZlGlL In describing my apparatus I desire it to be understood that I do not wish to limit myself to the exact types of machines forming the various parts of the apparatus as various changes may be made therein without departing from my invention.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. Apparatus for producing fiber board comprising a container means for moistening and'heating the chip waste therein, a beater, a conveyer between the container and beater, a screen, a chute extending between the beater and screen, a receptacle, v a chute between the screen and receptacle, acylindrical screen located. in the receptacle, a o e-acting felt mu cooperating therewith, a vat, a chute extending from the receptacle to the vat, an agitator, a pipe and pump between the vat and agitator, a final receptacle provided with cross slats located in the bottom, and a ipe line extending from the agitator to the nal' receptacle, apump located in the pipeline, and an inclined fiat chute leading from the final receptacle to the press. a
