Description
iii. a
MANLEY CHEW, OF MIDLAND, ONTARIO, CANADA.
FIBER BOARD.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, MANLEY CHEW, of the town of Midland, in the county of Simcoe, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fiber Boards, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to a certain ,new and useful fiber board, and the object of the in vention is to produce a fiber board Which will be strong, stiff, not liable to check or warp nor be effected by dampness or water.
To produce this fiber board I have to follow the following method:
My method consists in subjecting the chip waste to moisture and heat, or shortly steam, to c0231; the same, floating this waste and beating it in such floated condition to a fibrous, watery, pulpy mass, with the fibers separated but unbroken, and practically shredded, then agitating the mass to keep it in proper consistency and carrying it in such consistency in a stream over obstructions whereby the mass is free from foreign matter, and then precipitating or projecting the pulp in a flat filmy state into the press where the Water'is expressed and the fiber board is finally formed, then drying and waterproofingthe board. v
- The cooking part of the method occupies from ten to twenty-four hours depending on the nature of the chip waste.
Steam is caused to pass through the waste and renders it pliable and workable. I preferably treat the pulp in itspassage through the apparatus with a sultable chemical Specification 01 Letters Patent.
Application filed October 23, 1920. Serial No. 419,049.
Patented July 18, 1-922.
'drated 'sufiiciently to give it the proper density in order to coat the board which should be preferably dipped into the composition or solution.
It will be seen from this description that a board made in accordance with my invention is of a maximum strength for this class of board by reason that the pulp in my method of producing it, is reduced to fine shreds which lie adjacent to each other and practically interweave themselves throughout the body'of the board, The binder also helps to further solidify and strengthen the shredded mass.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a
MANLEY CHEW.
