ICE-CREAM-DISPENSING MACHINE.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VViLLrAM J. GUERIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and Statey of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ice Cream Dispensing Machines, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates essentially to an icecreamv dispensing or distributing machine in which the transverse sides of a paste board box made to contain the cream gauges the quantity forced from a can or tank.
An object of the invention is to provide a can with la slidable tubular plunger carrying a pair of slides the movements of which are controlled by the downward pressure of the boxinverted over the plunger.
Another object of the invention is to provide means actua-ted by the operator for sliding the plunger downward into the can s0 that a predetermined quantity of the cream will be forced into the inverted box.
The novel combinations of the vinvention are more fully described in the following specification and claims reference being made to the accompanying `drawings in which:

Figure 7 is a vertical section taken along the line 7-7 of Figure 4 on a smaller scale.
In the drawings the numeral 10 designates a` can or tank containing the usual number of gallons of ice-cream. and having a funnel shaped bottom 11 the function of which will be hereinafter described. The can is arranged in a refrigerator 12 having the usual opening 13 at the top normally closed by a co-ver 14 to give access to the can.
The top of the can is closed by a slidable, tubular plunger 15 having a packing ring 16 to give a tight fit and prevent any of is a vertical section of the the cream from being squeezed between the wall of the plunger and the can. In the interior `of thewplunger is located a truncated conical compartment 17 with a rectangular opening 18 for the ejection of the cream. 117 hen the plunger is in its lowest position in the can the truncated compartment telescopes over the funnel to substantially force all the cream from the can.
The opening leading to the compartment is normally closed by a pair of slides 19 having a series of rollers 20 made to glide on tracks 21 iixed to the top of the plunger. The slides are moved to their closed position by the expansion of coiled springs 22 one coacting withthe side of each slide.' Each slide also carries an angular track 24, one being opposite the other. A pair of blocks with inclined faces 25 to form a V or a wedge shaped opening are mounted to move by means of rollers 26 along the angular tracks. The blocks have triangular sides so that they will conform to the angular tracks.
The means for actuating the inclined blocks includes a cardboard inverted box 27 positioned by an operator to engage the faces of the blocks. The box is inclosed in a holder or casing 28 to prevent it from being crushed. The top or mouth of the casing andthe box rides down the inclined planes when pushed from above thus sliding the blocks away from. each other along the angular tracks to spread them and open the slides. The movement of the two slides is at right-angles to the'movement of the blocks and at reverse directions with each other. The limit of the movement of both inclined blocks is governed. by the transverse dimensions of the box. For example, a small box for holding a gill of cream will initially be supported at a narrower part or nearer the vertex of the V when the blocks are together so that when it is pushed down it accordingly moves the blocks and slides uncovering an opening corresponding to the size of the mouth of the box.
A knifeSO for cutting the cream after it is forced into the box is mounted at the upper part of the conical compartment. The knife is connected to cords 31 extending forwardly as indicated in Figure 4. The cords are guided by rollers 32 and a knob 33 on the upper portion of the plunger is made to be pulled upward. to move the knife in a rectilinear path over the opening. Springs 34 connected to the back of the knife Will pull it back out of action when the knobis released.
