Description

B McCARTY. HYDROCHEMICAL CLEANER.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 1- 1920.
K'AQL? l Patented July 4, 1922 WITNESSES 20 mm/70R FPATENT QFFHQ BERT MCCARTY, OF TAMPA, FLORIDA.
To all whom it may concern-i Be it known that I, Bnnr MCCARTY, a citi zen'of the United States, and a resident of Tampa, in the countyot liillsborough and of cleaning liquid in such a manner'that the liquid will be caused to thoroughly remove all particles of dirt from the article. A furtherobject of this invention is to provide a cleaning device-of the class de scribed having simple means whereby the same may be conveniently assembled or prepared for operation.
The invention forming the subject matter of this application aims also to provide a cleaning device for jewelry and other small articles which is simple to operate, eflicient in use and cheap to 'manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of thefollowing description. v
Tn the accompanying drawing forming a partol' this application and inwhich like.
numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figurel is a side elevation of the improved cleaning device,
Figure 2 is a central vertical longitudinal "sectional'view through the same,
Figure 3 is a ho'rizontal' sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 2, and
ure t -is a horizontal sectional view 1 taken on line 44 of i igure 2.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 generally designates a pump which principally consists of the usual cylinder 6 within which a piston 7 is slidably' arranged. As illustrated in Figure 2, the piston which may be of any desired construction is connected to a plunger 8 by means of nuts 10, and is adapted to reciprocate for drawing liquid into and discharging the same from the cylinder. A closure 12 is arranged at the rear end portions of the cylinder 6 and is Specification of Letters Patent.
HYDROCHEMICAL CLEANER.
Patented July 4, 1922.
Application filed November 1, 1920. Serial No. 421,145.
provided with an annular attaching flange having oppositely arranged slots 14; adapted for the reception of locking lugs 16 carried by the upper or rear portion of the cylinder. The closure 12 is also provided with several small apertures 16 by means of which air may be supplied to the cylinder 6 rearwardly of the piston 7 as the piston moves forwardly, and by means of which air may be discharged from the cylinder as the plunger is drawn rearwardly.
As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 the forward end'portion of the cylinder 6 is provided with an annular attaching flange 18, to which an article receiving receptacle generally designated by the numeral 20 is adapted to be detachably connected.
The article receiving receptacle 20 comprises spaced annuli 22 and 24 which are connected by -means of spacing strips 26. The spaced annuli 22 and 24 and the spacing strips 26 constitute the "frame of the receptacle and a screening 28 constitutes the side walls of the receptacle. The screening 28 which is arranged in annular formation is soldered orotherwise secured to the inner side of the frame. The bottom wall of the receptacle 20- comprises attaching rims 30 and a screen'32 which is secured to the rim by soldering or. any other suitable means.
In attachingthe receptacle 2O to'the attaching flange 18, it is merely necessary to insert the oppositely directed lugs 34 carried by the annulus 22 into a pair of oppositely arranged bayonet slots 36 in the attaching flange 18. By giving the receptacle 20 a slight rotary motion the lugs 34 will be caused to enterlthe inner branches of the bayonet slots 36 whereby the receptacle will "be securely though detachably connected to the cylinder.
When preparing the device for use, rings or other small articles may be placed within the receptacle 20 which is toraminous, and the receptacle may ,7 subsequently be connected to the attaching flange by inserting the radially extending pins 34 into the bayo net slots. The foraminous receptacle 20 may now be submerged within a quantity of cleaning liquid and by giving the piston a rearward movement the liquid will be drawn through the foraminous receptacle into the cylinder. The liquid will of course be caused to flow directly into the receptacle and over the articles of jewelry with the result that the rings or other small articles will be thoroughly cleanedl The outward movement-of the piston will cause the liquid to flowzfreely about the rings.
ton slowly or rapidly as the occasionrequires the velocity of the liquid may be regulated...
By reciprocating the pis- The rings or-other small articles-are prevented from entering the cylinder 6 by means of a screen 38 secured within the forward portion of the cylinder by means of a two -par tretaining rim' 40. When the foraminous'receptacle is attached to the pumpythe fo'rward 'endof the'cylinder- 6 contacts with the adjacentedgeof theannulus 22 so' that the fo'raminous receptacle will be heldagainst movement by the radially extending lugs 84.
lVith reference .to' the foregoing description takeninconnectionwith the drawings it'=w-ill'be observed-that the cleaning device constructed in accordance with'this invention maybe conveniently operated for thor-' oughl' y-'cleaninglsuch" small articles as jewelry. ,By the useof the device the Operator need not submerge his hands in thecleaning liquid and possibly cause himself injury.
Having thus described the invention, what is'claim'ed is r V 1. A-portable cleaning device comprising 7 a hand pump having acylinder'and a plunger,*a1cylindnical foraminous receptacle having an open end flatly abutting the forward end of said cylinder,"said cylinder and said receptacle-being of the same diameter, and an attaching .flange surrounding the-adjacent portions of' said 'receptacle and said cylinder. i 2. A portable 'cleaning ."de.vicecomprising I a hand pump having a cylinder and :a, plunger,a cylindrical foraminous receptacle having an open" end flatly abutting the forward end of said cylinder, said cylinder and said receptacleibeing 0fthe same diameter, an
attaching flange surrounding the adj acentwith-a pump having a cylinder, provided witha-stat-ionary reticulated end wall, of an attaching member connected to the'forward end'ofsthe-said cylinder, and a foraminous receptacle having one'end open and detachably connected to said attaching member.
5. The combination with a pump, of an attaching flangesecnr'ed to the forward end of the same, the forward end of said pump being open, and a foraminous receptacle having its rear end portion detachably received-within said flange, the rear end of said foraminous receptacle being flatly ,en-
gaged'with the forward end of said pump, there being a pinand slot connection'between" said flange and said receptacle.
6. The combination with a pump, of an attaching flange secured to the forward end V ofthesa'me, the forward end of said pump being open," a foraminous receptacle having its rear end "portion" detachably received within said yfiange, the rear end portion. of said foraminous receptacle being engaged with'the forward open endof said pump, i
and pins carried by said receptacle andconnected to said flange.
7 A cleaning devicecomprising a foraminous receptacle having spaced annuli and a I foraminous portion, a flange adapted to detachably receive one of said .annuli, said flange being provided "with locking slots,
radially extending pins carried by saidvane null and rece ved w thln; said slots, and means connected to said flange for directing a' cleaning agent through the receptacle.-
8." A cleaning device comprising a forarni nous-receptacle havln'glan annulus and a V ,foraminous portion, a flange adapted to de-' tachably receive said annulus, said flange being provided with locking slots, radially extending pins carried by said annulus and received within sai'dislots, and'means connected to said flange for passing a cleaning agent-through said receptacle. v
9. A cleaning device comprising a recep- -tacle including spaced rimspand strips connecting the rims, said receptacle being'provided'with foraminous walls secured to said rims and said connecting strips, an attaching member connected 'tO1OIl6 of said rims, and means connected. to sald attachingmember for directing a. cleaning agent back, and
forth through said receptacle.
