Be it known that I, Illumina F. Katrin, a citizen of the United States, and resi^ling at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, and useful Improvements in amusement Apparat-us, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to amusement apparatus adapted for use at amusement places of various kinds and classes, and the object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the class specified which is designed to amuse both old and young and which'may be mounted or set up wherever such apparatus are required; a further object being to provide an apparatus of the class described which involves a plurality of spaced disks rotatably mounted 'in connection with a suitable platform and pas senger carrying members or cars adapted to be move'dlover said platform and disk by the operation or-rotation of said disks, and with this and other objects in view'the invention consists in'an apparatus'of the class and for the purpose specified which is simple in construction'and operation, and efficient in use, and whichl is constructed and operated as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designatedV by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. l is a plan view of one form 'of my apparatus Fig. 2 a bottom plan view lthereof with part of the vconstruction omitted;

In Figs. l to 3 inclusive, I have shown one form of my improved Vamusement apparatus in which I employ a. suitable elongated framework 10, the top portion l1 of which constitutes the platform of the apparatus, and said platform is supported by a plurality of leg members l2 and is reinforced by angularlyarranged rib members 13 which join centrally as shown at la. The platform 1l is provided with an upstanding bumper wall l5 which is approximately velliptical in form, or comprisespaiallel side members'l joined by arc-shaped end members' 17, and the side 'members 16 of the bumper lwa'll are provided with spaced inwardly directed arc-shaped projections )'78, two of which are employed on each wall, in

The platform ll is provided, in the form of construction shown, with three large apertures 19 in which a corresponding number of `disks 20 are adapted to [it and rotate, it being understood Athat the upper faces of the disks 2O are in approximately the same horizontal plane as the upper face of the platform ll.

i Secured to the shaft 21 is a gear 27 in connection with which a gear 28, on the shaft of an electric motor 29, operates whereby the shaft 21 may be rotated. Mounted upon the central portions 14 of the rib members 13 of the framework are upstanding pins 30 which pass centrally through the disks 2O and upwardly into a central partitioning and bumper wall 31, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawing, said wall extending centrally and longitudinally of the apparatus and the ends thereof terminate approximately, centrally of the end 'disks 20 of the apparatus, as 'clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
1 also employ in connection with the apparatus a number of passenger carrying members or cars 32, three of which areshown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, and one of which is shown in detail in Fig. 4 of the drawing, and said cars, in the form of construction shown, are circular or thimbleshaped in form and consist of an upwardly cylindrical wall 33 having a closed bottom 34 in which is mounted a plurality of dual roller casters 35. Secured to the lower end of the upstanding wall 33 is an annular bumper ring 36 which is adapted to operate in connection with the walls 15. 16, 17, 18 and 31 of the apparatus to guide the separate cars in their movement over the platform 11 and the separate disks 20 thereof. An annular seat member 37 is mounted within the upstanding wall 33 and'secured in position by a suitable bracket 38, andwhen the apparatus is in use a number of people sit upon the annular seat 37 in the separate cars 32 and as the disks 20 are putv into operation. said disks being all rotated in the direction of the arrow m ofFig.v 1. said oars will be advanced over the platform and over said disks from right to left. and from left to right. or in the direction in which the disks 20 are rotated. it being understood that it is the operation or rotation of the disks 20 that advances the separate cars 32 over the platform or conveys said cars from one disk to the other. y

`6 and 8 of the drawing, and said wheels serve to support the disks 20 in proper position, and also prevent lateral movement of the disks in the operation of the apparatus, as will be apparent on a Consideration of Fig. 8 of the drawing. i
The gears 40 are mounted upon shafts 43 which extend downwardly through the transverse members 22 and secured to the lower ends of said shafts are beveled gears 44 in connection with which other beveled gears 45'secured to a shaft 46 operate. The shaft 46 is mounted in bearings 47, 48 and 49 secured to or formed inte-gral with the framework of the apparatus, or the transversemembers 22 thereof as well as the vcentral portion 14 of the rib members 13 located below the central disk 20. A gear 50 is secured to the shaft 46 and lanother gear 51 on the shaft of an electric motor 52 operates in connection with the gear 50 to drive the shaft 46 and thus rotate the gears 40 through the beveled gears 44-45, and the rotation of the gears 40 will rotate all of the disks 2O in the direction of the arrow m2 of Fig. 5.

1t will he apparent from the foregoing that in the construction shown in Figs, 1 to inclusive. the disks 20 are frictionallv driven while in the construction shown in Figs. 5 to 8 inclusive. the disks 20 are driven positivelv through the gearing hereinbefore described, andV said disks are supported and rotate upon the angularly arranged wheels 42 which coopera-te with the beveled faces 41 of said disks 1 alsopreferablv employ. in the construction shownl in Figs. 5 to 8 inclusive.y supplemental frictionally driven disks 54. which are mounted to rotate in apertures 55 in the platform 11. and said disks arev located at the opposite sides of the platform and between the central and end disks 2O` as clearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing, and the periphery of the Small Vifistnee'o disks etoperate in connection with the periphery of the disks 20', and by means of which said disks 5d are rotat il in the rotation of the'disks 20. T he disks are mounted on shafts 56 which pass downwardly into the transverse members 22, as clearly shown in Fig. G of the drawing.
The object of providingthe small disks 54 is to prevent the stalling of the cars or passenger carrying members 3Q and between the separate disks 20, in other words, the disks 54 serve to carry or convey such cars from one disk to the other.
The construction shown in Figs. 9 and l0 of the drawing is the same in all respects as that shown in Figs. l to 3 inclusive except that the central bumper wall 3l is omitted and substituted for the arc-shaped projections 18 are inwardly projecting members 57 which are approximately triangular in form and the inner ends of which are rounded as shown at 58.
Another difference in the construction consists in substituting pins 30 in the construction shown in Figs. l to 3 inclusive, the pins 59 being preferably provided with heads 60 which aid in holding the disks 20 in proper position.
In this construction the end disks 2O are rotated by the wheels 23 as in Figs. l to 3 inclusive, while the central -disk 20 is rotated in an opposite direction to said end disks by changing the position of the wheels 23-24, in other words, the central disk 20 is rotated by a friction wheel located at the left instead of at the right of said disk as viewed in the drawings, and the end disks 20, in this construction, are rotated by friction wheels located at the right of said disks.
As above stated with the exception of the changes in construction, above set out, the general construction of the apparatus shown in Figs. 9 and l0 will be the same as that shown in Figs. l to 3 inclusive, but by eliminating the central bumper wall 3l and rotating the central disk in the opposite direction to the, rotation of the end disks, the passenger carrying members or cars 32 will travel over the platform and said disks in the direction of the arrowed line m3 shown in Fig. l of the drawing, the inwardly projecting members 57 serving to guide the members or cars 32 in this operation.
lt will be understood that the disks in the construction shown in Figs. 9 and l0 may be operated in any desired manner, and while I have shown a platform of specific consstruction and a specific arrangement of disks thereon, my invention is not necessarily limited in this respect nor am l limited to any specific arrangement of bumper wall on said platform and which serve to guide the passenger carrying member or cars over the apparatus, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown tudinally of said the pins 59 for theY and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages. t

2. An apparatus of the class described comprising an elongated platform, a plurality cf disks mounted in and spaced longitudinally of said platform, carriage members mounted on and movable over said platform and disks, a drive shaft mounted longitudinally of and beneath said platform, means for gearing said shaft with said disks whereby said disks may be rotated in predetermined directions to move said members over said platform and from one disk to another', and bumper walls for guiding said members in their movement.
3. An amuse-ment apparatus of the class described comprising a suitable platform, a plurality of disks spaced therein and the axis of which are arranged in an approximately common line, carriage members mounted on and movable over said platform and disks, means for rotating said disks to move said members over said platfolm and from one disk to another, and bumper walls for guiding said members in their movement.

An amusement apparatus of the class described comprising a suitable platform, a plurality of disks spaced therein and the axis of which are arranged in an approximately common line, carriage members mounted on and movable over said platform and disks, means for rotating said disks to move said members over said platform and from one disk to another, bumper walls for guiding said members in their movement, and other bumper elements cooperating with said bumper walls for guiding the movement of said members.
5. An apparatus of the class described comprising an elongated platform having semi-circular end portions, disks mounted in the end portions of said platform, another disk mounted in said platform intermediate of said first named disks, carriage members mounted on and movable over said platform and disks, and means for rotating all of said disks to move said members over said platform and from one disk to another.
