IMPROVEMENT 5N STEAM BATHING APPARATUS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,185, dated August 26, 1873; application filed Febriiary 20, 1673.

Steam-Bathing Apparatus, of which the fol lowing is a specification:

The object of my invention is to provide for a portable Russian steam-bathing apparatus, which is cheap to manufacture, easy to transport, and not liable to get out of order or become destroyed.

Heretofore, portable Russian steam-bathing apparatus have been constructed of wood, in form of a Wooden boX or inelosure',in which the person has been placed. Apart from the bulky and heavy nature and appearance of such constructions, the wood exposed to'the steam will expand, and, after again drying, will shrink, which causes the seams and corners to open and become unlit for use.

In order to overcome these objections and difficulties I have invented a Russian steambathing apparatus, so constructed that the pipes giving the cold-Water douches are placed in a tub, and can, by telescopic joints, be elevated to any desired height or head and again pushed together within the height of the tub. The cover or inclosure, being made of a flexible, pliant, water and steam-proof material, can also be folded together in the tub after use. The steam-generating apparatus, beingmade separate,is simply placed outsideof the tub, on the floor, when in use, and can also, after use. he placed inside the tub, so that the compass of the whole apparatus, when trans ported, is only the size of the tub.

In order to more fully describe my invention, I refer to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and representing a vertical sectional view of a Russian steam-bathing apparatus embodying my invention.

A represents the floor of a room. B is a tub having a Water-tight bottom, 0, placed at or near the bottom of the tub. Higher up in the tub is placed another water-tight bottom,

' D, by which a water-reservoir, a, is formed it up through either of the telescopic pipes b A b and 0 e, and out through the water-roses d and e, the supply of water through either pipes or roses being regulated or stopped by aid of the cooks f and g. Water is supplied to the reservoir a by aid of the pipe h and funnel t'. Still higher up in the tub B is placed a perforated bottom or floor, F, leaving a space, j, between the same and the bottom D. To the bottom or floor F is fastened or nailed a cover, G, made of oil-cloth, of water and steam proof material, in form of a sack without bottom or top, inclosing the pump E and the pipes c c and water-rose e. The top of this cover G can be drawn together around a persons neck by aid of a string, is. Into this cover G is conducted steam through the pipe lleading from a steam-generating apparatus,

H, placed outside of the tub B. A person standing or sitting on a stool on the perforated bottom or floor F, inside the cover G, which is fastened at the top around his neck by drawing together the string k, is enabled at his own pleasure to increase or decrease the flow of steam through the pipe I and give himself a douche-bath on any part of his body inside the cover G by aid of the hand-pump E. The water falling down, or steam condensed, is disposed of through the perforated bottom or floor E into the space j, from where it is conducted away through pipe m. A douche-bath for the head is obtained by aid of the pipes 12 b and water-rose c.

Having thus fully described my invention, I desire to claim- A portable Russian steam-bathing apparatus, consisting of the tub B with watertight bottoms O and D and perforated bottom or floor F, inlet and outlet pipes h and m, the hand force-pump E, and telescopic pipes b b and c e, and water-roses d and 6, cover G with the string k, in combination with the steamgenerating apparatus H and pipe 1, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
