Be it known that l, VFininnnrck 'HACH- MANN, citizen of the United States, .and resident of the city of St. Louis and State of lvlissouri, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Manifold Sales Books and Covers Therefor, of which the following `is a specification, containing .a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in manifold sales books and coverstherefor, and has for its primary object a sales book in which the original and duolicate sales tickets and-a tissue-copy are mac e simultaneously and in which the tissue sheet is valready interposed between the Original Vand duplicate.
A further object of my invention'is to construct a manifold sales book in which the original and duplicate sales tickets are bound toa back, and which has the tissue sheets bound to the same backend interposed .between the originahandV duplicate, so as to form virtuallya single book which is adapted to be held at .both endswithin my improved cover.
i still further. object V.isto construct a cover for sales books in which the sales book is held by spring clamps7 one vrof the covers having an extra plate hinged` thereto, which serres .both as a carrier for'thetotal sales slip anda protecting cover for the used `tissue sheets.

ln the construction of my device I .employ a. manifold` bookhaving the duplicate sheet 13, the original liandA a tissue sheet l5. The duplicate sheet l3'has its end secured toa stiff back 16,?this ,beingpreferablv of cardboard. `"lhe .duplicate and original sheets are formed integr al, *and folded up on each other at a. point indicatedby the-numeral 17. away7 leaving a slot or slit through which the end .18 of the tissue sheet l5 projects. This proj ecting endlS isj'likewise secured to the .back 16. Each sales ticketrisHmadein the ident-ical manner and placed Aone upon the .otherythat is, av duplicate, .atissue sheet and an original. In thisk manner the entire book is built up, there beingapproxim'ately fifty sets of slips toa book. At'intervals between the sheetsare` placed sheets Yofcarbonpaper'lt). This .carbon paper is double-- faced, and isfadap-ted tobe, inserted between the duplicate landthetissue sheet so that three copies will be .made simultaneously.
After.Y the book has been thus formed, it is secured within the cover,.which consists of the back cover 20, which is .provided along each of its narrow edges with right-.angular projections 21 andQQ. 'Theseprojections are formedv into loops Q3 kand .24, through which Yare inserted the. hinge. ,wiresQ .and .2.6. The' ba'ckj 22 is .falso provided with ribs27, whichprevent. ,the cover` from; scratching the table. YFormed .integral withwthe back .and projecting upwardr at right angles are a series of teethor projections 28,v and29which are *designed, to contact andgrip thesback 16 of ,the sales book.
Hingedly secured .tothe wire 26 is `a spring'-actuatedk clamp 309 which vhas vpro- ,jeeting .teeth 3l. .These teeth .are adapted ,to gripY the upper duplica-te slip andthus A portion of the .fold is cut hold the one end of the sales book within the cover. The clamp 3() is provided with loops 32, through which the hinge wire 26 passes.
Surrounding the hinge wire 26 are coil springs 33, having one end resting on the clamp 30 and the other end against the projection 22. These coil springs hold the clamp 30 tightly against the one end of the sales book.
Formed on the projection 21 are loops 23, through which the hinge wire 25 passes, and surrounding this hinge wire are loops 35, which are formed integral with a springactuated Vclamp 36. This clamp is con.- structed identical with the clamp 30, and is for the purpose of holding the tissue end of the book within thecovers. Hingedly secured to the pin or wire 25 by means of the loops 37 is a top cover 38, which is also provided with ribs 39 to prevent it from scratching the furniture. The end of the cover 38 opposite the loops 37 is provided with loops 40 which are adapted to receive a hinge wire 41, and secured to this hinge wire is a protecting plate 42, this plate being secured to the wire 41 by means of loops 43.
The free end of the plate 42 is provided with an extension 44, which is adapted to be folded over the plate and forma pocket 45 for receiving one end of the total sales `ticket 46. The cover 42 is also provided with a flange 47 located between the loops 43. This ange is adapted to be folded over a strip of metal 48, forming a pocket 49 which receives the other end of the total sales ticket.
The protecting cover 42 is provided along .its remaining edges with the bead 50, this bead serving also to close the pockets 45 and 49 at their ends and prevent thesales ticket 46 from sliding outl sideways.
The covers 20 and 38 are also provided with beaded edges 5l which serve to stiften the cover as well as eliminate sharp edges.
*Referring toi-Fig. 5, the duplicate 52 and original 53 are folded one upon the other similar to the original and duplicate 14 and 13, but in this instance the fold 54 is cut away from both sides, leaving the two tickets joined together at their center portion. Vlien the tickets are constructed in this manner the tissue sheet is provided with two projections 55, which extend through the slots formed by the cut-away portion and through these projections the tissue sheets are secured. i
YIn Figs. 10, 11 and 12 I have` shown another modied form. of sales ticket in which I use the back 56, 'to one end of which is secured the duplicate sales ticket 57, and to the other end the tissue sheet 58. Attached to the free end` of the tissue sheet 58 is the original 59. This attaching is done by means of a narrow strip of glue which holds the two strips together in such manner that the original can be readily detached therefrom.
In sales books as at present constructed where a tissue copy is made, the tissue is either bound in al book which is attached separately to the cover and it is always necessary to insert a fresh tissue sheet whenV making out a sales ticket, or another form is where the tissue sheet is glued to the original, but in this instance when a sales ticket is filled out, the tissue sheet has to be torn loose and placed in a separate pocket. This frequently results in the loss of tissue sheets, as well as causing a lot of trouble in arranging the tickets when they reach the propel1 oliicer for checking up.
By the use of my device it is impossible to forget to make a tissue copy, as is frequently the case where the tissue is in a separate book, and there is no possibility of the tissue sheets becoming lost or deranged, as they are secured to the back and being placed between the sales tickets when the same are blocked they will run in sequence and consequently cannot get mixed up and require straightening after the book has been used and the tissues sent to the office.
My object in making Fig. 7 the preferred form is t at a great many stores require the original and duplicate to be sent to the cashier without being torn apart. In order to do this it .is only necessary to pull back the original and grasp the duplicate, which can readily be torn from the stub. This leaves the original and duplicate secured together at the folded portion 17 and when the two tickets reach the cashier, they can be readily torn apart.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A manifold sales book, comprising a plurality of original and duplicate sales tickets integrally formed and folded so as to lay upon each other, said tickets being partially separated along their folded edge, a tissue sheet located between each original and duplicate ticket, said tissue sheet having a portion projecting through the separation ofthe ticket, a back of relatively stili material, and means for attaching the duplicate tickets and tissue sheets to opposite edges of the back.
v2. A device of the class described, com prising a back cover, having two up-turned edges, a series of upwardly projecting teeth formed integral therewith, and near the upturned edges, loops formed on the up-turned edges, a top cover having loops formed along two of its edges, a wire extending through said loops and through the loops of one of the up-turned portions of the back cover for hingedly connecting the same together, a wire extending through the loops formed on the remaining portion of the back cover, a spring-actuated clamp secured to each of said wires, a protecting-plate having loops along one edge, a wire adapted to be inserted through the loops on one edge of the top cover and the loops on the plate for hingedly connecting the sametogether, a pocket formed along two edges of the protecting plate, said pocket adapted to receive a total sales ticket, ribs formed integral with the top and back cover, said ribs adapted to prevent scratching, a manifold sales book comprising a plurality or original and duplicate sales tickets and tissue sheets, a back to which the duplicate sales tickets and tis sue sheets are secured, said manifold sales book inserted beneath the spring clamps and held within the covers.
3. A manifold sales book, comprising a plurality of original and duplicate sales tickets, a plurality of tissue sheets interposed between the original and duplicate tickets, said tissue sheets projecting beyond the edges of the original and duplicate tickets, a projection secured to one end of said duplicate tickets, and a back of relatively stiff material to which the projections of the duplicate tickets and of the tissue sheets are secured.
4. A device of the class described, comprising a back cover having two edges at right angles thereto, a plurality of loops formed along said edges, a spring-actuated clamp hingedly secured to each of said v loops, a cover hingedly secured to one of said projections, a protecting-plate hingedly secured to said cover, pockets formed in said protecting-plate to receive a total sales ticket, ribs formed on the said covers to prevent scratching, and upwardly projecting teeth formed integral with the back cover and adjacent the 11p-turned ends.
5. A manifold sales book comprising a back, a plurality of duplicate sales tickets, having one end secured to the back, a plurality of tissue sheets having one end secured to said back, one of said tissue sheets arranged on the top of each of the duplicate sales tickets, an original sales ticket placed on top of each tissue sheet and so arranged as to prevent its shifting relative to the duplicate ticket and tissue sheet, a carbon sheet arranged between the duplicate sales ticket and tissue sheet, whereby three copies may be made simultaneously, said original and duplicate sales tickets being capable of being torn from the back and the tissue sheets remain in book form attached to the back, an auxiliary back for said book, a cover hinge to said back, a means for detachably securing said book to the auxiliary back.
6.
