LAMP.
APPUCATION FILED OCT. 19. I921.
Patented July 4, 1922.
Elwuewtoz AJZ "$717M ALLEN J. CHRISTMAS, OF RAjYVTLLE, LOUISIANA...
LAMP.
Application filed October 19, 1921. Serial No. 508,748. I
I (ZZZ iF/ZOi/Z. it may concern Be it known that T, ALLEN J. CHRISTMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rayville, in the parish of Richland, State of Louisiana. have invented a new and useful Lamp; and I do hereby declare the following to bc a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to lamps of the miuers hat carried type, and has for its object to provide means whereby an enlarged reflector may be easily and quickly attached to a lamp reflector, thereby allowing the rays to be reflected at greater distance and the light intensified.
A further object is to provide in combination with a concaved reflector of a lamp an enlarged reflector the convexed side of which is received in the lamp reflector and held therein by means of lugs engaging over the edge of the lamp reflector and an adjustable and slidable lug also carried by the enlarged reflector and engaging over the edge of the lamp reflector, said last named lug-being controlled through the medium of a lever and link.
ll'ith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth. shown in the drawings. described and claimed. it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be madewithin the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of a miners lamp and reflector. showing the same attached to a hat, and showing the enlarged reflector attached to the lamp reflector.
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail sectional view through a portion of the enlarged re- A flector and the slidable lever controlled attaching member.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the lever controlled attaching member.
Figure 4 is a detail collective view of the various parts of the lever controlled attaching device.
Figure 5 is a detail view of a port-ion of the enlarged reflector, showing the spaced lugs carried thereby.
Referring to the drawings. the numeral 1 designates a conventional. form; of miners Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July- 1, 1922.
carbide lamp, whiehlamp is supportedby means of a bracket 2 and spring arms 3 to a vertically disposed plate 4t, which is attached at '5 to the crown 6 of the hat 7, and at 8 to the visor 9 of the hat. It is to be understood that any form of attaching means may be utilized and that the device hereinafter described may be used in connection with any form of lamp wherein a reflector 10 is used. be secured in any suitable manner to the carbide lamp 1 and has extending therethrough at a point substantially centrally thereof a burner 11. The reflector 10 is concaved as shown, and is provided preferably with a marginal reinforcing rib 12. It has been found that at times the reflector 10 is not sufficiently large to obtain the best results or the necessary results, therefore to overcome this objection, and at the same time get the maximum efficiency. a coneaved detachable reflector 13 is provided. The reflector 13 is provided with a centrally disposed aperture H, which receives the burner when the convexed side of the detachable reflector is disposed within the concaved side of the lamp carried reflector 10. The reflector 13 is provided with spaced L-shaped lugs on its convexed side, which lugs receive the bead 12 of the reflector 10, and after the reflector 13 has been properly positioned within the concaved side of the reflector 10. the operator places his finger on the end 15 of the lever 16 and forces said lever in the direction of the arrow a. The lever 15 is pivoted at 17 to a guide sleeve 18 earried by the rear face of the reflector 13, and has a link connection 19 with a slidable member 20. The slidable member 20 is provided with a cutaway portion 21, which receives the bead 12 of the reflector 10 at a spaced point to the points of engagement of the lugs 15 with the bead 12, thereby securely and rigidly holding the enlarged reflector 13 in position on the reflector 10. It will be seen that the reflector 1.3 may be easily and quickly removed from the reflector 10 and replaced by a new reflector, for instance when the enlarged reflector becomes tarnished or burned. Also that the reflector 13 may be easily removed for storage or shipping purposes.
The detachable reflector 13 has been described in connection with a reflector carried by a carbide lamp, however it is to be understood. that the detachable reflector may The reflector 10 may 7 of the enlarged reflector and adapted to engage over the marginal edges of the first 15 mentioned reflector and hold the same in close engagement with the spaced lugs carried by the enlarged reflector.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 20 two subscribing- Witnesses.
