Be it known that I, VILLIAM J. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of (Weston, in the county of Union and State of lowa, have invented a new and Improved Sieve. of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in sieves, an object of the invention being to provide a sieve with a removable bottom so that a number of bottoms carrying screens of various size mesh can be used with the same body or rim.

A further object is to provide a novel means for removably supporting the screen or bottom within the sieve body, and to provide a device of this character which will be simple and practical in construction, durable and efficient in use, and comparatively ineX- pensive to n'ianufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and ar rangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter desc ibed and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings:

Referring in detail to the drawings, 1. rep-- resents the rim or body of my improved sieve which is in the form of a substantially oval metal band. Handles 2 are provided at opposite ends of the body. At its lower end, the body is formed with an inwardly presented annular flange 3 adapted to support a removable bottom or screen.

l. have used the reference numeral 4 to designate a flatoval frame to which a screen 5 is attached. These lugs are formed with openings therein adapted to register with similar openings in the rim 1. on the outside of the rim to securely and removably clamp the screen carrying frame 4 in place.

The construction above described permits a number of removable bottoms carrying screen of different size mesh to be used with the same body or rim since one screen may be quickly removed and another inserted in its place.

Although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be evident that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A sieve including a rim, an annular internal flange around the lower edge of the rim, a screen carrying ring supported on the flange and including at its ends extensions lying along the inner faces of the rim and removably secured thereto.

2. A sieveincluding a rim, an annular internal flange around the lower edge of the rim, a removable bottom supported on the flange, said bottom including a ring shaped frame, a screen carried by the frame, up standing lugs at the ends of the frame, and means for removably securing said lugs to the rim.

3. A sieve including a rim, an annular in ternal flange around the lower edge of the rim, a removable bottom supported on the flange, said bottom includin a ring shaped frame, a screen carried by the frame, said rim having openings in its ends, upstanding apertured lugs integral with the ends of the frame and registering With the openings, and securing devices passed through the registering openings removably'connecting the frame and rim.
