Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 27, 1922- Application filed June 29, 1920. Serial No. 392,856.
Fort Scott, in the county of Bourbon and- State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Auto Dress, of
which-the following is a specification.
My present invention pertains to apparel, and it contemplates the provision of a garment that may be worn to protect clothing from dust and dirt, and this with equal facility by a man or woman.
The invention has for one of its objects the provision of an overall or body covering for use by occupants of an automobile to prevent dust and the like from gathering on the garments of the wearer, especially when necessary, to make repairs, change tires and the like, on a trip.
The invention also contemplates the provision of a garment that may be so ad justed over the garments of a woman that her skirts will be prevented from hampering her in her free movements during house work and the like.
The invention in all its details will be fully understood from the following description and claim when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming parts of this specification, in which: Figure 1, is a view in elevation of the garment and showing the rear thereof as unbuttoned preparatory to being donned.
Figure 2, is a rear perspective view of the garment and showing. how the same appears when fastened in one positlon.
Figure 3, 1s a VIGW' similar to Figure 2 and showing how the garment appears when bllity of her skirts coming in contact with fastened in another position.
Figure 4 is a detailed view of the garment and showing the manner of fastening the same at the rear thereof.
Figure 5 is end section of Figure 4. Similar numerals of reference designate like parts in all the views of the drawings. My novel garment comprises the body portion 1 that is opendown its full length in the rear thereof, and is faced as indicatedby 2. This facing2 is provided with male fasteners or Snappers. 4 and directly opposite said fasteners are female fasteners 3 whereby the entire opening in rear of the garment may be closed.
In the rear of the garment is asplit or short opening that is provided with a facing 5 and fasteners of the male'and female varlety 6 as indicated.
The body 1 may be provided with the upper portion '7 that is secured to the belt 8 and said portion 7 is provided with shoulder straps 9 at one end of which are male fasteners that enter the female fasteners 11 of the belt 8.
In the practical use of the garment the same is secured about the ordinary dress or other wearing apparel in the manner'shown in Figure 2.
However, when occasion demands the leg portions shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5 may be produced, insuring greater protection and greater facility in working, by simply open ing the split in rear of the garment and unbuttoning the first two fasteners in front of the garment and then fastening-the front and rear portions together at the left in Figure 1 and the front and rear portions at the right in said figure, together, to produce the garment shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5.
It will be understood from the foregoing that the garment is simple and inexpensive to produce and may be worn with the greatest of comfort and facility, especially by women who operate and do certain repairs on their automobiles as the same may be worn buttoned between the, ankles as illustrated in Figure 3 and 4, and this with but slight effort on the ,part of persons practicing the invention.
Moreover, the garment when worn as illustrated in Figures 3 and 4 will effectually preclude dust and dirt from the skirts of a woman automobilist and permit ready and easy movement of her feet without liathe clutch or other mechanism of a vehicle.
'It offers further protection to. the waist claim and desire to secure by Letters-Pat- I ent is In a garment, the combination of a bib portion, shoulder. straps secured to the bib portion, a skirt portion stitched at its front to said bib, 'a longitudinal placket formed in the rear of the skirt portion, button-holes formed on one face of the material of the skirt adjacent the opening and buttons secured on the opposite face, whereby the I opening ma be closed to form a skirt, a several button-holes of the rear placket to comparatively short placket formed in the form leg portions at the lower end of the front of the skirt and extending from the skirt.
