ABTUR DEICHMANN, OF VC0130GNE-INIARIENIBU'RG, GERMANY. l
GOLF-STMKE COUNTER.
To all whom t may' concern:
Be it known that I, ARTUR DEICHMANN, citizen of Germany, residing at Cologne- Marienburg, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Golf-Stroke Counters (for which I have filed ap lication in Germany July 21, 1919, Patent um ber 337 ,37 8, April 18, 1921), of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a golf stroke counter consistingV of a plurality of adjustable numbered discs placed side by side. Golf stroke counters of this` type hitherto known operating with ratchet wheels and ratchet tion and were liable to get out of order easily in consequence of the breaking or bending of a pawl.
In such constructions also the numbered discs could only be turned in one direction.
All these disadvantages are obviated by the invention according to which the various discs are provided on their adjacent sides with interengaging corrugations, corresponding in number to the number ,of figures on the discs, So that when the discs are turned in either direction they automatically snap into the positions of adjustment.
One form of `the Ainvention is illustrated by Way of example in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section Figure 2 is a cross section and Figure 3 is .an elevation.
In the example -illustrated the numbered discs a are in the form of rings which are rotatably mounted side by side on a tube b. The rings are resiliently clamped together by end discs c under the action of a tension spring d arranged in the tube b and connecting the two end discs c. The row of numbered discs a is completed by a-rotatable disc e, which is not provided with figures, but simply with a marking stroke f In the example il ustrated each disc bears on its periphery the numerals 0 to 9. Each time 4a player holes a ball he sets the corre-l sponding disc with the numeral agreeing with the number of strokes taken opposite to the stroke mark f.'
When the player has completed the whole course, the golf counter will indicate, by the row of numbers to the right of the mark awls were complicated in construe land in what manner the same is to Specication of Letters Patent. Patented J 27, 1922 Appucationvnled April 16, 1921.

f, successively the number of strokes betwueen the separate holes of the course, so that the result of the play will be seen at a glance.
The spring d 1s of suitable strength to set up suficient friction between the discs to prevent accidental rotation.
As illustrated in'Figure 3 the adjacent sides of the numbered discs may be provided with corrugations g of such form that each numbered disc when moved through one digit automatically snaps into its new position and remains therein. This avoids accidental displacement of the discs when the counter is carried in the pocket.
The golf counter illustrated is provided with nine numbered discs a but it may be provided with V18. Additional numbered discs lz. may be provided at the side of the Having now particularly described Vand ascertained the nature of my said invention be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1. A golf stroke counter comprising a plurality of indicating discs arranged side by side, the faces of the discs -having corrugations thereon, and means adapted to cause the discs on rotation in either direction to snap automatically into the positions of adjustment.
2. A golf stroke counter comprising a plurality of indicating discs arranged side by side, the faces of the discs having corrugatons thereon, and a spring adapted` to cause the discs on rotation in either direction to snap automatically into the positions of adjustment.
Any suitable numberof these' faces having :i corrugtion corresponding to to eiuli inilivation, and resilient means for each indication, and means for retaining retaining sind discs in a column permitting;r
said (lisos in :i column. a relative rotation when desired. 10 4. A golf stroke counter comprising a plu- In testimony whereof I have signed my 5 rality of discs having numerical indications name to this specification.
on tlie periphery; and corrugated end surfaces having a. corrugation corresponding ARTUR DEICHMANN.
