Be it known that I, HARRY F. Bon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flo-at Switches, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a float switch. The object of the invention is to provide a float switch by which to control an electrically driven pump, the operation of which float is automatically controlled by the altitude or quantity ofwate-r in a storage tank. It is a further object of the invention to render the connection between the float and the switch adjustable in order that the device can be adapted to different conditions, and in order to vary the interval between successive operations of the switch.
In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated one embodiment of my invention in which Fig. 1 shows the general system with my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the switch and the operating devices thereof with parts broken away and in section; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same.
In the embodiment of the invention herein shown I have utilized a storagetank 1 which may be situated in. any suitable locality, such as the attic. At 2 I have indicated a suitable force pump with a suction pipe 3 communicating with a cistern or other source of fluid supply. A. discharge pipe 4 is provided through which the fluid is discharged into the tank 1. At 5 I have shown a suitable relief valve. The tank 1. is alsoprovided with an overflow pipe, indicated at 6. The discharge pipe 4 is connected to a for this purpose I have provided a float 13 4 within the tank. The main features ofthe switch here shown are described and illustrat in United States Letters Patent No.

A controlling lever 24 is alsoprovided and this lever is pivoted at one end upon an axis pin 25. The opposite end of the lever has a. roller 26 in engagementwith the nose 21. There is provided a pair of spaced-apart stops 28 and 29, which are-preferably rigidly supported by the frame 14, and located in the path of the levers 17 and 24, the lever17 having a. suitable projection 30 adapted to engage either one stop or the other according to its position. To hold the lever 17 in yieldable engagement with the end of the lever 24 I have utilized a spring, 31 attached at one end to the fixed frame-work, as at 32, and having its opposite end attached to the lever 17 at 19. The spring 22 is stronger than the spring 31 and overcomes. the action of the latter when the switch isheld open. For actuating the controlling lever 24 to open and close the switch I have provided a pair of relatively adjustable disks 33 and 34. These disks are rotatably mounted upon the axis 25 and rotate independently oi. the lever The adjacent faces oi the disks are serrated, assho'wn at 35, and are held in adjusted positions relatively to each other by a lock nut 36. The disk 33 has alcut away portion 37 and the disk 34 is provided with a similar cutaway portion 38, thereby forming spaced-apart shoulders or abutments 39 and 43, which is the position occupied by said partswhen the water in the tank has fallen to a predetermined level, the switch being closed, and the motor 9, being caused to operate the pump for supplying water to the tank.
