To @ZZ 'whom t may concern Be it known that l, WALTER M. FnAsn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Brighton, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Receptacles, of which the following is a specication.
The present invention relates to receptacles and an object thereof is to provide a simple, strong and inexpensive construction which may be shipped in a knocked-down condition to be quickly assembled for use.
To this and other ends the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described, the novel features being pointed out in the appendedclaims.

According to this invention, a side wall 1 is provided formed of flexible sheet material such as liber, wood veneer or metal and having a length, which when rolled in cylindrical form, will give a receptacle of the desired diameter. Along opposite edges of this Wall two strips 2 are secured, preferably made of metal and having lateral extensions 8 bent over the adjacent edges of the wall and on the inner face of such wall so that a 'single fastening device 4 passed through one of the flexible extensions 3 will also pass through the strip 2. The opposite ends of each strip are free from the wall 1, one of said ends projecting beyond the edge of the Wall at 5 and having a shouldered tongue 6 formed thereon, while the other end 7 of the strip lies within the opposite edge of the wall 1 and is provided with a T shaped opening 8. l/Vhen the wall 1 is rolled into the form of a cylinder, that edge of said wall adjacent the ends 7 of the strip 2 is passed under the ends 5 of the strips and then the tongues 6 are passed through the T shaped openings 8 to interlock with the walls of such openings, thus securing the wall 1 in its cylindrical form. The strips 2 are also provided with flexible lateral extensions 11 projecting beyond the edges of the wall 1. In order to strengthen the wall 1 transversely of its longitudinal axis, strips 9 of metal or other suitable material are fastened at 10 to the wall and to the strips 2, the ends of the strips 9 projecting beyond the edges of the wall 1.
The ends of the receptacle may be closed by heads 12 formed 0f veneer or other suitable material, each head also preferably having a supplemental cushion head 13 with a spring device 14 formed of crossed spring arms interposed between such heads. The heads are fitted into the open ends of the cylindrical wall 1, preferably so that' the outermost faces lie in spaced relation to the edges of the cylindrical wall. The flexible extensions 11 are then bent over the adjacent edges of the cylindrical wall and are secured to the outer faces of such heads by nails or other securing devices 15. A brace 16 is then placed within the cylindrical wall across the exposed face of each head 12 and the projecting ends 92L of the strips 9 are fastened at 17 to such braces. lf desired, a partition 18 may be inserted in the receptacle midway between the heads to strengthen the receptacle at its center, such partition being secured by a nail 10 driven through the strips 9 and the wall 1 into such partition.
A receptacle constructed in accordance with this invention may be inexpensively manufactured. It can be shipped in a knock-down condition to itsvplace of use to be thereafter readily built up into receptacle form. The side wall is formed in strip form from inexpensive material and is strengthened along opposite edges by strips which are utilized for securing such side wall in its cylindrical shape. These strengthening strips also act to secure the heads and at the same time are tied together by strips which are alsoutilized for securing the head, thus providin; a strong and durable structure.
- What I claiml as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In. combination With two heads, a knock down side Wall comprising a flexible member having its edges arranged in overlapping relation, said side Wall receiving inlits ends the two heads, and flexible strips arranged exteriorly of the sidewall along the upper and lower edges of said side Wall, portions of each strip at opposite ends being free from the side wall and interlocled, and said strips having spaced lateral extensions projected beyond the upper and lower edges of the side Wall extending over said edges and secured to the heads.
2. A receptacle comprising a cylindrical side Wall, heads closingthe ends of said side Wall, exterior strips along opposite edges of said side Wall having lateral flexible extensions secured to the heads, and strips connecting the edge strips.
3. A receptacle comprising a cylindrical side Wall, heads closing the ends of said side Wall, strips along opposite edges of said side Wall having flexible extensions secured'to the heads, braces secured to the heads, and strips connecting the edge strips and having extensions secured to the braces.y
4. A receptacle comprising a cylindrical side Wall, heads closing the ends of said side wall, and exterior strips along' opposite edges of said side Wall having lateral flexible extensions secured tothe heads, and also having flexible extensions bent inwardly and secured to the inner faces of said side Wall.
5. A knocked down side Wall for receptacles comprising a flexible wall member having flexible strips along opposite edges,
portions of each strip being free from the w all member and one end of each strip being provided with a T shaped opening and the other with a T shaped proj ection' which permit the ends of each strip to be interlocked when the Wall member is rolled with its edges in overlapping relation.
G. A knocked down side Wall for receptacles comprising a flexible wall member having` exterior flexible strips along opposite edges, said strips having flexible projections extending beyond the Wall member and secured tothe inner face thereof, and also flexible projections extending beyond the Wall member to secure the heads of the receptacle.
7. A receptacle comprising a cylindrical side Wall formed of flexible material, heads closing the ends of said side Wall, andv flexible strips along opposite edges of said side Wall, having interlocking connections ,at their ends and having also fiexible exten sions along their outer edges, some of said extensions being secured to the inner face of the side Wall and the `other of said extensions being secured to the heads.
8. A receptacle comprising a cylindrical side wall formed of flexible material, headsI closing the ends of said sidewall, flexible strips along opposite edges of'said side Wall having interlocking connections at their ends and having also flexible extensions along their outer edges, some of said extensions being secured to the innerxface ofthe side Wall and the other of said extensions being secured to the heads, braces secured to the heads, and strips connecting the first named strips of the side wall and having their ends extended beyond the side Wall and secured to said braces. n
