have invented certain new and useful 1111- provements in Building Construction, (for which I have filed application for patentin France on April 29, 1918, patent of Addition No. 20,927), of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in roofing and more particularly to the type provided with transparent portions to permit light to penetrate the roof.
A primary object of the present invention is to provide a roof formed of elements which may be prepared in a factory, and then shipped to the place of use and rapidly assembled.
A further object of the invention is to provide a roof formed of trussed cement elements which may deform slightly in use without liability of causing leaks.
A further obj ect of the invention is to provide a root formed of cement elements which may be connected together by means permitting the quick disassembling of the parts, so that a root of a building formed of the improved elements may be rapidly taken apart, when necessary. 7 I
With the foregoing objects outlined, and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the inven tion consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a roofing of shed form.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the construction shown in Figure 2.
The roofing is constructed by forming the latter by means of trusscd cementelements assembled together by simple rabbeting and self-supported without a framing.
The said elements consist of a very wide gutter h forming a girder, the edges of the two raised sides of which terminate in substantially cylindrical members i, z'. A large slab apertured to receive panes of glass, is
placed on one of the edges of the gutter h, and its lower edge is provided with a cavity or socket which exactly with the shape of the member a of the said edge. The said slab j constitutes one of the'elements of the steepest slope of each bay in the roof.
, A large rubble-floor slab 7c is also provided which forms the large slope of the shed and rests partly on one edged of gutter k and partly on the perforated slab j where it is supported by the corbel-shaped moulding 7" provided in the upper part of said'slab. The lower edge of the slab 7c is also provided with a cavity or socket to engage'one of the members 2'.
. The slabs j and k are provided at their side edges with checks Z which form solid masses of equal resistance and which impart to said slabs a high resisting power to flexion in their longitudinal direction.
The said cheeks Z are'covered with ridgetiles consisting of mouldings which form a capping.
In order to facilitate the fixing and ensure the bracing of the root the following atrangement has been adopted Full rubble-floor slabs 7%: have exactly half the width of th perforated slabs j. They are superimposed one upon the other whilst overlapping the joints.
Each gutter is capable of forming a girder, in which case it is made of one piece along its full length; or when the span is too great its section is reduced and it rests clamped upon an independent irder of iron, cement, wood, etc, or other suitable material. In such case, in order to ensure the tightness of the joints, the same procedure is adopted as indicated in the above-mentioned application i. e., a thin cement channel covering the grating is cast inside the gutter.
It will be noted from Figures 2 and 3 that the upper edges of the slabs j, 70 are provided with substantially vertically extending flanges m which are separated by a groove n. This construction permits the use of a demountable ridge tile adapted to cover the oint at this point and assure tightness thereof. It will also be noted that the joint at the point j is formed by curved surfaces, so that the slabs may ride on one another at these joints when the slabs expand or contract.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the joints of the different roof elementsare p1'0 videdby" curved surfaces which permit play of the various elements without reducing the strength of the roof panels. 1 i 4 i It will also be noted that the extreme up per surfaces of the member 2' are arranged above the lower edges of the slabs sotthat water flowing down the slabs will enter the gutter without liability of seeping through the joints at the lower endsof the slabs.
The above described i arrangements are" given as exemplifications only; the shapes,
dimensions, constituent materials, details of rality of gutters spaced apart and each'hav-j execution and applications may 'bevaried' without departing from the, distinguishing features of the invention.
Having now particularly described and asc-ertainedthe-nature oflny said invention and in what manner the same isto be performed, I declare that what Iclaim is 1. upon the application of Charles Henri Besnard, of Paris, France, for an improvement in Building Construction, were erroneously issued to Julien Pierre Bertrand Bessonneau, as assignee of the entire interest in said invention, whereas said Letters Patent should have been issued to the inventor, said Besnard, and
Julz'en Pierre Bertrand Bessmmeau, said Bessonneau being assignee of one-half interest only in said invention as shown by the records of assignments in this oflice; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Ofiice.
