This invention relates to the delivery of railway tickets and the like from the receptacles in which they are stacked or stored for sale at railway stations or other places.

More particularly the invention relates to apparatus of the kind wherein the tickets are delivered singly from the bottom of a stack by withdrawal of a slide which carries the lowermost ticket of the stack out of the receptacle, a plate spring being provided to engage the ticket as it passes outwardly thus permitting of extraction ofl the tickets whilst preventing the insertion of tickets into the receptacle at the bottom of the stack. By this means the tickets may be withdrawn one byL one without permitting of unauthorized access to the body of tickets in the receptacle or the insertion of old or spurious tickets, thereby obviating fraud in the vending of the tickets which may b e kept under the control'of a particular oiiclal or person.

The object of the present invention is to provide, in apparatus of the above type, an improved construction and arrangement of parts whereby the apparatus is rendered more compact and eflicient and may be readily applied to existing railway furniture or ticket supply receptacles.

Referring to the drawings which form part of this specification Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a compartment of the ticket receptacle showing a stack of tickets therein` and one of the slides in its normal position. Parts are broken away for convenience of illus-l tration.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectionttaken intermediately between two of the adjoining ticket compartments and slides.

Figure 8 is a part sectional front view of the improved apparatus portions being broken away to 'show the various parts.

Referring to the drawings the numeral 2 indicates the wooden ork other ticket receptaclel which is usually divided by Lpartitions 3 into a plurality of compartments l in each of which a stack of tickets '6 is accommodated. f'

The ticket receptacle is closed by a metallic 0r other bottom plate 7 which extends beneath each of the compartments 4 and is provided with longitudinalslots 8 located one beneath each compartment. Attached by 'screws 9 or othersuitable means to the upper surface of the bottom plate 7 are lguide plates 11 having dovetail edges 12.

The dovetail edges 12- form-slideways for slides 13 which are each provided with corresponding dovetail edges 15 and at their front ends are furnished with handles 14. The slides are normally held innormal po sition as in Figure 1 by means of retaining springs 16. One end of eachof 'these springs is attached to the front of one of the slides 13 'or aback kturned hooked extension 15 thereof, and the other end of the spring is connected to a stud or other suitable projection 17 on the bottom plate 7.

Carried on the upper surface of each slide 13 adjacent its inner or rear end is an upstanding catch 18'which is adapted to engage behind the lowermost ticket of the stack as in Figure l and withdraw such ticket therefrom with the slide. Each slide is also provided with a stop 19, these stops being accommodated by the longitudinal slots 8 of the bottom plate to limit the outward movement of the slides by engagement with the front ends of said slots.

Extending across the front of the ticket receptacle adjacent its bottom is an upwardly and rearwardly inclined front plate 21. This plate may be secured in position by depending bolts 22 which pass through holes in the plates 7 and 11 and are retained therein by nuts 23. The upper portions of thesev bolts are inclined and flattened asiat 24, these flattened portions being secured by rivets 2G to the front plate 21.

One of the flaps 30 is located above each of the slides 13 as shown the upper ends of the flaps being mounted on transverse hinge pins 31 the ends of which turn in the bearings 28. A plate spring 32 is secured at its lower end to each door 30 and bears at its upper end aga-inst the front plate 21 so that the doors are normally held down against the limit stops 29 and with their lower edges closely adjoining or touching the slides 13 as shown in Fi re 1. Attached to the front of the plate 2l by screws 33 is a transverselydispcsed distance piece 3a having gullets 36 therein to accommodate or clear the bearings 28 and the upperl portion of the hinged flaps and plate springs as shown.` Grooves or recesses 37 and 40 are also formed on the `rear or inner side of the distance piece 34 above each slide 13 to clear the free upper end of the respec tive spring 32 and the parts 24 respectively.

A cover plate 38 extends across the front of the distance piece 34 and is also retained in position by `the screws 33 which pass through holes in said cover plate and distance piece and into corresponding threaded holes in the fixed parts 2li and 21. Thus by removing the screws 33 the cover plate 28 and distance piece may be removed to give access to the hinged flaps and their controllin springs 32 for repair or other purposes. 'Ighe receptacleis preferably provided with a drop front 39 extending across the various compartments and hinged at i1 to the upper edge of the front plate 21. The ticket receptacle is also furnished with a hinged lid 42 which may be provided with a 'downturned lip 43 adapted to fit over the upper part of the drop front 39 so that by fasten-` ing the lid in closed position with any suitable lock as at la an unauthorized person is prevented from gaining access tothe tickets in the receptacle. i

It will be evident that with the lid and drop front locked as above mentioned the tickets can only be withdrawn by pulling out theslides 13. The construction above described is simple, inexpensive and eiiicient and is not liable to easy derangement. In addition it may be easily applied to existing ticket receptacles `of the type commonlyemployed for the purpose indicated. i

Having now described my `invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- 1. Improvements relating to the deliyery of railway tickets and the like from storage receptacles, consisting in the combination with a ticket receptacle having a compartment adapted to accommodate a stack of `tickets of a slide located at the bottom of said compartment and adapted to withdraw the tickets singly from the bottom of the stack therein, an upstanding front plate extending across the front of the ticket receptacle at its Vlower end and having spaced outcuts disposed immediately above' the slide, said outcuts forming rolled tongues, a hinged flap having a transverse hinge pin bearing in saidv rolled tongues said flap being located at the front of said compartment immediately above the slide and a spring controlling said flap to hold it normally in closed position with its lower end adjoining the slide for the purpose set forth.

Improvements relating to the delivery of railway tickets and the like from storage receptacles, consisting in the combination with a ticket receptacle having a compartment adapted to accommodate a stack lof tickets of a slide located atthe bottom of said compartment and adapted to withdraw the tickets singly from the bottom of the stack therein, an upstanding front plate extending across the front of the ticket receptacle, at its lower end and having spaced outcuts disposed 'immediately above the slide, said outcuts forming tongues which are rolled to provideV bearings, a hinged spring controlled flap having a transverse hinge pin accommodated by said bearings and an intermediate forwardly projecting tongue formed on said front plate between said rolled tongues said intermediate tongue acting as a limitstop to engage the hinged `flap when the latter is in normal or closed position adjacent the slide for the purpose speci- 3.
