By tnrhtening the nut 42 the two sleeves are clamped in the desired relative position. Through the bore in the inner sleeve 39 1 pass a drive shaft 43 which is intended to produce a fast spininng drive for the grinding wheel. This shaft 43 is provided with a pair of universal joints 4A which are typically illustrated but which may he of any standard construetiom The shaft at its upper end' is provided with a socket 45 adapted to receive the squared lower end 16 of the motor shaft and to he made fast thereto by set-screw. The lower end of the shaft 43 is threaded and. adapted to screw into the upper end of the emery wheel spindle ell, which spindle is mounted to turn in an emery wheel arbor 48, the spindle hav ing a collar 49 at its upper end and at its lower end being threaded toreceive a screw 50 by which the emery wheel clamping collar 51 is press-er against the emery wheel 52 to hold it in position between said. collar and an upper collar fill fasten the spindle. The spindle at its upper end turns in a bushing 54 in the arbor which has its bore enlarged throughout the major portion of its length and at its lower end is provided with two antil'riction bearings 55 in which the lower end of the spindle turns. The cavity in the arhor is filled in any suitable manner with lubricant for the spindle hearing. The arbor at its lower end bears against the fixed collar 53 on the spindle and at its upper end the arhor is provided with a collar nut 56 and with a reduced threaded shank 57 which is adapt ed to screw into the lower threaded end of the bore in the inner sleeve 39. When a boring bar 58 is to be substituted for the emery wheel arbor 48, the latter is unscrewed from the sleeve 39, the set screw having lirst been loosened to disconnect the shaft 43.1'10111 the motor shaft 23 and the arbor 48 and shaft l3 are thus deiacl'led as a whole from the apparatus. In Fig. 7 l illustrate an arrangement for adjusting the sleeves 38 and 39 by the pro-- vision in the former oi an elongated slot 64 through which a screw stud 65 passes and is screwed into the inner sleeve 39. A lock nut 66 is screwed on the outer end ofthe stud 65 and engages a concave washer 67 which bears against the outer convex surface of the sleeve. This washer is provided with apointer 388 which works over a micrometer gauge 69 on the outer sleeve. By loosening up the nht and at the same time-loosening the sleeves,
the inner sleeve can be ad usted by the stud to the desired extent relative to the outer sleeve and by reference to said gauge sons to give the exact diameter desired to the path of revolution of the, grinding wheel. In adform an added. clamping means for holding the sleeves in set position.
When the stud 65 is adjusted to zero 0- sition on the micrometer gauge the boring hair or the grinding arbor will he concentric with the motor shaft amlleeves. As the stud is shifted over gauge the center of the arbor moves to positions increasingly eccentric to the drive shaft and sleeve cenl lhen the boring bar is in service the sleeves must he in position to bring the horing bar concentric with the sleeves. Toin sert the grinding arbor, the borin bar is unscrewed from theinner sleeve and the grindb arbor is substituted, the shaft l? being inserted upwardly through the sleeve and connected to the motor shaft'and at the same time the arbor is'screwed intothe in nor sleeve. The sleeves may then he relatively adjusted to give the rapidly rotating grinding wheel the desired path of rcvolu tion accordingto the diameter of the cylinder to be ground and as the grinding proceeds the sleeve nut 17, is constantly minced 1 carriage downwardly until the whole cylinder is reground, afterrwhich he reversed or the nut 16 on the screw'is loosened and the screw itself rotated by the hand cra11k so as to bring the not back up with the carriage.
- I consider the two telescoping sleeves as the preferred means for obtaining the eccentric adjustments of the grinding wheellout my invention contemplates the combination of any equivalent rotating means capable of .llll' shifting the point of connection of the boring arbor eccentrically with relation to the projected center line of the driving element.
This invention is not intended to be restricted in scope to the specific embodiments shown, but contemplates such modifications as come within the spirit and scope of the claims.

1. Ina portable. cylinder reboring and grinding machine, a base having suitable means for being mounted on a cylinder to 'be bored, a vertical guide on said base, a
carriage vertically adjustable on said guide, a sleeve eccentric-ally bored which is journaled' in the carriage with its axis concentric with the cylinder "to be bored. a sleeve eccentrically bored which is rotatable in said first mentioned sleeve, end fastenings to hold said sleeves in fixed relative position, a gear rigid with the outer sleeve, an electric motor mounted on the top of the carriage with the of said sleeves and having a axis of its driving shaft concentric with the cvlinder to be bored, a worm on said motor shaft, a feed for the carriage having a driving transmission comprising a worm shaft and a worm Wheel driven by said worm, a fiexibleshaft extending through the inner detachable connection with the lower end of the motor 7 shaft and comprising a pinion meshing the gear on the outer sleeve, and means to detachably connect a tool shank to the lower end of the inner sleeve.
