To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1, PAUL Freon, France, a citizen of the French Republic, have invented certain new and useful Inn provements in Pumps for Delivering Motor Fuel and the like, of which the followin'g is a specification,
This invention relates to improvements in pumps for deliveringmotor fuel and the for feeding fuel for the engines the tollmving ditiiculties have hitherto been present: V
- '1. lnsuilicient tightness for petrol and the joints or stuffin particular).
2. Uiling of parts in frictional contact rendered ditticult by the presence of the petrol. I 3. Necessity of actuating the pump by 'belt or other gearing resulting in complication of construction .mounting, and high cost of production.
The type of pump forming the object of the invention does not comprise any joint on a movable part, as the pump is arranged en tirely inside the fuel tank, which renders It does not require any oiling or any motor actuation.
The invention consists in principle in utilizing for pumping petrol or other volatile liquids, the relative movements of a member of any kind fixed to a non-suspended part of a vehicle forenamplc, the back or front'axle with respect to the suspended vehicle, of which the fuel these movements being transmittedpump proper.

The feed tube 0 comprises a suitable seat intended to receive a ball 'u or a spring or other valve of any kind. This valve as well as the valve q are arranged to assure the circulation of the fuel in a suitable direction.

The pump is actuated by any suitable mechanical connection between the point chosen of the parts not suspended of the vehicle and the upper part of the rod 6 of the piston m.

The fuel reservoir 3 being integral with the frame of the car and the body of the pump being fixed inthis reservoir, it follows that the spring r oscillates round-the fixed point p and that its movements of oscillation are transmitted to the rod e which in consequence effects alternately rising and falling vertical movements.
The rise of the piston causes the suction of the fuel from the tank into the pump body 7); its descent causes the expulsion of the fuel into the channel 0. The piston has no need to be absolutely tight and does not require packings, its cylindrical surface is provided with annular grooves to lessen the loss of charge. The lack of tightness is translated into a diminution of feed which has no inconvenience in this case asthe teed required is generall small andthe amplitude of the movements as well as their "frequency will always produce an amply sufi'icient feed.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1-- A pump for supplying fuel for the engines of motor vehicles, comprising a fuel tank mounted on a suspended part of the motor vehicle, a vertical pump body mounted in the top of said tank and ext-ending downwardl therein andihaving orifices in its wall communicating with said tank, a piston movable in said pump body, a rod attached to said piston, means for guiding said piston, a delivery conduit in communication with the lower end of said pump body and leading to the point of consumption of said fuel, a valve at the pointof junction of said conduit with said'bod v, an inlet valve at the base of said body and means for actuating said piston connected to a nonsuspcnded part of the vehicle, and operated by the relative movements of the suspended.
