To all 107mm t may concern Be it known .that I, EnwrN Crimini', a citizen of the United States of America, residing at London, `llngland, have invented new and useful improvements in Liquid Vaporizers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for use in the vaporization and gasification of liquids, and particularly to filters for; usel the top of the chamber.
According to my invention, I employ a tubular vessel packed with wire gauze and provided with a liquid inlet and a gas out* let, said vessel being arranged above a liquid fuel burner of the kind in which the liquid fuel is vaporized, the vapour mixed with air and burnt, preferably the burner described in the specification of my former Letters Patent No. 1,381,080. The wire gauze may wholly `[ill the interior of the vessel, or it may partly :lill it, e. a space may be left at the bottom. or end of the vessel..` into which the liquid to be vaporized or gasilied is delivered.
To my improved apparatus there is snp* plied either a liquid fuel which is to be gasiied or vaporized, or water which is to be vaporized and superheated. The super heated gaseous fuel may be used in an interal combustion engine or for any other desired purpose, and the superheated steam may be used as the working fluid for a steam engine. on an automobile or for any other desired purpose.
ln one form of construction, the wire gauze layers are arranged in the form of discs or sheets provided with a perforation to permit of their being threaded on to a rod on which they are held by means of nuts or the like. By this means the wire gauze can be very readily removed from` or replaced in the tubular vessel, and the gauze arranged to leave an empty space between it and the bottom of the tubular vessel as already I' above mentioned. The heater is arranged concentricallyin front of the burner and is surrounded by a cylindrical casing, e. g. of steel lined with asbestos, of such internal diameter as to leave an annular space around y the'heater through which the liames from the burner can pass; This casing may advantageoi'lsly be made continuous with the ,casing that' encloses the nozzle and extended heating conduit of such burner.

A is a tubular vessel, which may be advantageously formed of casty `iron and be provided with a branch B at the bottom of its lateral wall for the inlet of the liquid yfuel or water to be gasified or vaporized.
The vessel A is closed at the bottom and open at the 'top where it is provided with a screwed-on cover C having an outlet branch l) for the gas ory the steam generated. For n the purpose of -liltering the gas or vapor t there is tightly fitted into the interior of the vessel a series of superposed discs E, E of iron wire gauze, which have a central hole to enable them to be threaded on to a screw threaded rod F, on which they are firmly held and are pressed together by means of nuts G, Gr. The tubular vessel and wire gauzemay be made of other suitable metal, e. g. nickel. The column of gauze so formed is continuous, each disc being in contact with another disc of the column throughout at least one of its surfaces, in this manner producing sinuous paths for the gas or vapor which changes its direction at substantially every point. In addition to its function as a filter the column of gauze assists in the superheating of the gas or vapor, as willk be hereinafter set forth.
The vessel. A is provided with lateral lugs or projections H, H whereby it is secured by screws J, J in a double casing formed of concentric walls K, L, L having asbestos or like packing M between them. The outer wall K of this casing extends down to the base N of the apparatus, where it is provided with air-admission apertures O, O and forms the outer casing of the burner P, which is substantially of the form described in the specilication of my Letters Patent No. 1,381,080. The outer wall K of the casing is provided at the top with lugs Q Q, whereby it is drawn down on to the base N by means o bolts R, R. The liquid to be heated is conducted to the branch B through a pipe S, the oil Vt'or the burner P being Supplied through a pipe T. Moreover a suitable door K is provided in the failing K to permit aeeess to the burner P.
