BLADE PENDANT.
APPLICATION FILED AUGJI lig Patented May 30 IN VEN TOR. ,JM 72, M
BY n 5%* ATTORNEY UNITED STATES DAVID M. lWALL, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
BLADE PENDANT.
Application filed August 1l, 1921.
To all y'Le/0m it may concern.'
Be it .known that I, Darin M. IVAM., a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the` county of Providence and State of Ithode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blade -Pendants, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates as a new article of manufacture to a blade pendant.
The essential objects of my invent-ion are to combine in an ornamental pendant for a chain or other article, a cutting or a razor blade; to disclose the blade in a position and condition for temporary use; and to attain these ends in a durable, inexpensive and sightly structure capable of facile manipulatiou.
To the above ends essentially my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pendant embodying my invention,
Figures 2 and 3, sections of the same in open and closed positions respectively taken on line 2--2 of Figure 1,
Figures 4 and 5, sections on lines 4 4- and 5-5 respectively of Figure 2, and
Figures 6, 7 and 8 perspective views of several of the detailed parts.
Like reference characters .indicate like parts throughout the views.
My rdevice comprises a sheet metal box or 'housing 10 comprising front and rear walls 11 and 12, side walls 13, and a closed top 1 4 which in this case is a cap fast to the lateral walls by solder and provided upon its central portion with a perforated projection 15 in which is engaged a suspension ring` 17. The bottoni of the housing or casing is open as at 20, but closable by a cap or cover 21 provided with a marginal angular recess 23, adapted to receive a beveled catch projection 24 upon the wall 11, disengageable by inwardly pressing thel Wall area adjacent the projection.
Fast to the wall 12 by solder or 'otherwise is a longitudinally disposed member 25 shown in detail in Figure 6, comprising an attaching base 27 and lateral inclined dii/erging guide flanges 28. The base is provided at its upper end with a longitudinal Specification of Letters Patent.

slot 2S) whose lower end forms a stop shoulder 30.
lrlidably mounted on the guides 28 is an oblong plate 32, shown in detail in Figure 7 provided with lateral inclined converging flanges 34 adapted to overlap and slidably engage the lianges 2S. Uponthe upper end of the plate 32 is a hook 36 adapted to slide in the slot 29 of the track member 25. Upon its lower end is a curved lug 37 fastened to the cover 21 y,by solder. In longitudinal alignment with each other along the center of the plate are studs 39, 40, and 41. The end studs 39 and 41 have preferably rounded ends, and the intermediate stud is preferably provided with a thread 43 to receive a lmurled binding nut 44.
Resting on the slide plate 32 an oblong blade 46 having opposite cutting edges 47 and provided centrally with a longitudinal series of holes 49, 50, and 51 adapted to admit loosely therethrough the studs 39, 40 and 41 respectively.
An oblong clamping plate 53, shown in detail in Figure 8, is provided preferably with inclined lateral edges 54, to afford some resiliency, and has a longitudinal series of perforations 56, 57, and 58 to loosely admit therethrough the studs 39, 40, and 41 respectively. This plate or its edges rest on the blade 46 and is pressed in contact therewith by the thumb nut 44. It will be noted that substitution of blades is afforded by removing the nut and the plate lVhen desired the cover 21 may be unlatched as described and the blade carrying parts may be slid to exposed and operative position as shown in Figure 3. In which movement the slide plate is prevented from excessive outward travel by the contact of the hook 36 with the shoulder 30. Accidental return of the slide plate is prevented by virtue of an inclined spring arm 60 fast at one end 61 by a rivet 62 to the rear of the slide 32, and provided near its end with a shoulder 64 and terminating in a finger 65. When the parts are closed the arm 60 is compressed, but when opened the released shoulder 64 abuts against the end of the wall 12.
I claimi:
1. In a blade pendant, a easing including an open end and a closed end, an attaching rino' on the closed end. a detachable cap on the open end, a slide in the Casing fast to the capa a vblade on the slide, `a clamping plate on `the blade, and means for binding together and clamping the blade and the plate.
2. In a blade pendant, a casing provided with an open end, an attaching ring fon Ethe casing7 a closure cap engaging` the open end7 afca'teh ion the lcasing engaging ,the nap, wa plate fast to the inner face of the casing, guide flanges on the plate, a slide resting on the flanges and fast at one end to fthe cap, flanges on the slide s'lidably engaging the first flanges, a Clamping stud on the slide7 aligning studs on the .slide beside the first stud7 a blade lresting on the slide ,provided with holes to receive the studs7 a plate on Vthe blade provided -with perforations to adnnit the studs,.and a nut onthe Clamping stud engaging the last mentioned .plat-e.
'3. In a blade pendant, a casing' .provided With an open end, a projeetionnn the easing near the'end, a detachable cap on the easing over the opening engaging the projection, a plate fast to the Casing provided Wit-li a longitudinal slot inclined lateral flanges on the plate, a slide resting on the flanges and fastto the cap, inclined flanges on the slide overlapping the first flanges, a tongue on Ythe slide registerahle in the slot7 anda blade detachably mounted `on the slide.
4. 'In a blade pendant, a easing pro-vided With an open enda eapdetachably mounted on .the casing `over the ,open end, internal guide flanges `carried `by the easing, a slide yengaging 'the flanges and fast to the cap, a
