OFFICE.
ANDREW LEESEKAMP, OF ANAMOSA, IOWA.
cAsK COVER.
To all whom-it may concern: g
Beit known that I, ANDREW LEEsEKAMr, a citizen of the'United States, residing at Anamosa, in the county of Jones and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cask Covers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a cask cover, and the object is the construction of a simple and eflicient device for covering the top-of a cask or barrel, and which device can be quickly placed upon the cask or removed therefrom, so that the operator can easily have'access to the contents of the cask.
With this and other objects in view, my
invention comprises certain novel combisame in a closed position.
Figure 3 is a view in elevation, taken on line 3-3, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction'of the arrows.
, Figure 4: is a transverse, vertical, sectional view of the device, showing the fab ric cover thereon.
- Referring to the drawings by numerals (dotted lines) 1 designates the cask or barrel. The device comprises a resilient piece 2 of metal of .a split ring like structure, and
this body 2 is provided with an outwardlyprojecting portion 3 to which is attached a strap-iron hinge 4, which hinge 4: is usually fastened by nails or tacks (not shown) to the cask 1; this hinge is provided with apertures 5 through which the ordinary nails or tacks extend into the cask.
The ends of the rin -like body 2 are formed into loops 6 and 7. In loop 6 is positioned elongated link 8. Curved leverhandle 9 is pivotally mounted, at its inner end, in the loop 7 andthe grip 10 is formed upon the outer end of the handle 9. A plurality of sockets 11 are formed on the inner edge of thehandle 9, and these sockets extend inwardly toward the inner end of the handle, so that the outer end of the link 8 will be more securely retained in thehandle when Specification of Letters Patent.
v ring-like body 2.
Patented May 30, 1922.
App lioati on filed August so, 1921. Serial No. 496,990.
the device is in its closed position,as shown n Fig. 2; by forming the sockets so that they extend slightlydnwardly toward the inner ends of the handle, these sockets produce a hook structure, tending to prevent the link 8 from being displaced out of a socket when in its closed position, Fig. 2. To very positively prevent .a link from Jumping out of a socket, I employ a curved plate 12 laid a a'inst the outer edge of the handle, and I asten the plate over sockets 11, by detachable bolts 13; by unscrewing one bolt 13, the plate can be swung upon the other bolt to one side of the handle, permlttlng-the link 8 to be moved from a seated position.
Integral with the ring-like body 2 is an apertured lug 14 and this lug is seated in an aperture or slot 15 formed in the handle when the device is in a closed position, Fig. 2. Through registering apertures 16 extends a fastening pin or bolt 17, positively fastening the handle 9 in a closed position against the A suitable fabric covering 18 is wrapped or placed over the device (Fig. 3) for preventing foreign objects or insects from entering the cask or barrel, upon which my device is placed, when the device is in a closed osition upon said cask.
The evice can be applied to different size barrels or casks, since, by placing the link 8 in difierent sockets 11, the size of the device can be controlled so as to adapt it for use on different slze receptacles, such as casks or barrels, or the like.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, and have illus-. trated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, .during the extensive manufacture of, the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a device of the class described, the combination of a springy, split, ringlike body provided intermediate its end with an outwardly-extending portion, a strap hinge on said outwardly-extendin portion, said body having its ends forms into loops, an elongated link mounted in one of said loops, a curved lever-handle pivotally mounted in the other loop, an apertured lug formed.
to said lever-handle, said lever handle provided with a slot receiving said lug, and fastening means extending through the slotted portion of the lever-handle and a lug fixedly holding the lever-handle in a closed.
position upon the ring-like body, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto signature.
ANDREW LEEs -KAMP.
