Description

F. c. BAUER. TOY CAR.
APPLICATION HLED JAN. L4, 1922.
2 1 7 Patented May23,1922.
I INVENTORZ s. W fl EL-H user TOY GAB.
Application filed January 14, 1922.
T0 (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK C. BAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Toy Car, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a toy car which is adapted to run on a curved track hav ing the axles of its wheels mounted on bearings which permit said axles to slide or give on the pedestals of the car which form said bearings so as to compensate for the curvature of the rails comprising the track and thereby preventing the wheels from binding on the rails and being thrown off of the same.
It consists of the construction of the pedestals of the car whereby the wheels as they change their angularity of the rails are prevented from abutting said pedestals and rubbing against the same which otherwise would prevent the wheels from rotatmg.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated. in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described, as long as they are within the spirit or scope of the claims.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a toy car embodying my invention.
Figure 2 represents a bottom plan thereof.
Figures and 4 represent diagrammatic views pa tly in horizontal section illus atning of the car on curved t i. i r --umerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures. Referring to the drawings g ttes the body of a toy car, and 2 designates the pedestals thereof, the latter having the axles 3 of the wheels 4C mounted therein, said wheels being adapted to run on the curved rails 5 which may be for flat or spiral tracks as may be used for the toy. One member of each pair of pedestals has therein the cylindrical opening 6, and the other member thereof has therein the elongated slot 7, the opposite axles of a pair Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented haiay 23, 19 22.. Serial No. 529,168.
of wheels occupying respectively said opening rotatingly only therein and said slot both rotatingly and slidingly therein. Consequently as the wheels run on the curved rails and change their angularity thereon the axles in the slots give and slide therein and the wheels thereof compensate for the curvature of the rails whereby when the car is running the axles are prevented from blnding on the rails and jumping the rails or being thrown off therefrom. Again the inner faces of the slotted pedestals are deflected outwardly in horizontal direction in curved or bent form so that the outer sides of the wheels of the axles that occupy the slots in the pedestals and change their angularity when running in conforming to the curvatures of the rails are prevented from being brought into contact with the inner sides of said pedestals as stops which would otherwise interfere with the free running of the wheels as will be fully understood on reference to Figures and i.
The slots will be reversed on. the pedestals according the tracks are curved to the right or left.
Having thus described my invention what Ichiim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is x- 1. In a toy car, a body, wheels, an axle for said wheels, and opposite pedestals on said body, one of said pedestals having therein a cylindrical opening for one end of the axle mounted rotatably therein. and the other pedestal having therein a horizontally extending elongated slot in which the other end of said. arrle is both rotatably and slidhgly mounted.
23. l a toy car body wheels, axle for said wheels and pedestals the latter be ing adapted to forni the opp site hearings of said axle one end of said a e being only rotatably mounted in its respect i pedestal and the other end thereof being rotatably and slidingly mounted in its pedestal.
FREDERICK C. BAUER.
