The object of the invention is to proviee an egg or produce case adapted for shipping and display purposes and particularly to provide a device of this type having a plu rality of compartments or trays, the contents of any or all of which may be displayed either successively or simultaneously; and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a side view, and
Figure 2 is a plan view of a case embodying the invention.
Figure 3 is a side view showing the trays extended for the exposure of the contents thereof.
Figure 4 is a detail in perspective of one of the trays.
The case or crate, it being obvious that whether the walls thereof are constructed of solid or ventilated form is optional and dependent upon the character of the produce to be shipped, consists of a plurality of trays 10 adapted to be arranged in a tier or in superposed relation as indicated in Figure 1 and at opposite sides the trays are connected for folding movement or extension by means of links 11, each of which is pivotally connected to a plurality of the trays to the end that they may be extended as shown in Figure 3 to expose the contents thereof for display or for removal. 7
Carried by the uppermost and lowermost trays respectively at their rear and front sides are the uprights 12 and 13, the former extending downwardly from. the upper tray to form standards for supporting said tray and the intermediate trays when the crate is in the extended position indicated in Figure 3, any suitable means of permanent attachment being provided for securing said uprights in place, and hingedly mounted with relation to the top tray and preferably upon the upper ends of the rear uprights 12 as indicated at 14 is a cover 15 provided Specification of Letters Patent.

with means whereby its front or free edge may be detachably secured or locked to the upper ends of the front uprights 13 to secure the crate in its folded or shipping condition. The cover may be provided with a hasp 16 for engagement with astaple 17 with which in turn may be engaged a pad lock 18, or any equivalent or preferred means of securing the crate. in position for transportation may be substituted according to the requirements or conditions under which transportation is to be effected.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A folding crate or case having a plurality of trays adapted for arrangement in co-extensive superposed relation and connected by pivotal links mounted upon the side walls thereof, the uppermost and lowermost trays being provided respectively at their rear and front sides with downwardly and upwardly extending uprights, and a cover hingedly mounted upon the rear uprights in covering relation with the uppermost tray and adapted for attachment at its front edge with the upper ends of the front u p ri ghts.
2. A holding crate or case consisting of a tiered series of trays connected by links fivotally mounted upon the side walls thereof for extension to give access simultaneously to the several trays, standards connected with. the uppermost tray for supporting the same when the crate is in the. ex tended position and means for locking the trays in their folded or tiered relation.
8. A holding crate or case consisting of a tiered series of trays connected by links pivotally mounted upon the side walls thereof for extension to give access simultaneously to the several trays, standards connected with the uppermost tray for supporting the same when the crate is in the extended position and means for locking the trays in their folded or tiered relation and consisting of angularly related means for respectively spanning the upper and front sides of the crate and terminally connected respectively with the rear side of the upper tray and the front side of the bottom tray.
In testimony whereof they afiix their signatures.
