SANITARY TELEPHONE MOUTHPIECE.
intents.
tain new and useful Improvement in Sanitary Telephone Mouthpieces, of which the following isa full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being'had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification. I
The invention relates to sanitary caps for telephone mouthpieces, speaking tubes, and the like. I y
he primary aim of this invention is to provide a readily destructible cap of the character. referred to which may be quickly applied to a telephone or speaking tube mouthpiece for use during a conversation to prevent deposit ofmoisture, bacteria or other 'undersirable collections in the mouthpiece,
whereby to prevent the transmittalof dis cases and to obviate danger to the health of the user. a
Another aim of the invention is to construct a cap, for the above purpose, from a impedance or disturbance to the passa e of sound to the diaphragm of the telep one transmitter, andyet prevents effectively the deposit of moisture or deleterious germs in the mouthpiece itself. p It is further intended that means be incorporated in the cap for retaining the same temporarily fixedly upon or within the mouthpiece, the cap having the portion formingthe bottomor end wall thereof com posed .of relatively thin perforated material to permit the ready transmittal of sound therethrough. l j' The invention isintended to be constructed of a single sheet of material so as to lend toward quantity production, and consequently economic output.
ther aims and advantagesof the invention, together with a more concrete understanding of the same, may be obtained from the following detailed description and the claims taken with an, inspection of the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a telephone mouthpiece showing my invention applied thereto;
, Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 11,
Patented May 16, 1922. 1921. Serial No. 468,558.
Fig. 2 is an sanitary cap;
F g. 3 s a perspective view of the cap; -Fig. 4 1s a sectionalview of a modified form of the invention.
Referring now to tieularly Figure 1, 10 is -a telephone mouthpiece of the conventional form, perforated at 11, and threaded at 12 for connection to the transmitter, not shown. N ow referring n addition to Figs. 2 invention is received within the flaring tapering annular wall 13 of the mouthpiece, and to this end preferably comprises a frusto-conical hollow body 14 composed of sufficiently heavy paper or the like to withstand the slight pressure required to force the cap into the mouthpiece, the inner or smaller end of said body havinga relatively thin closing or end wall 15 of paper, if desirable, constructed integrally with the body. The body and end wall both may be and preferablyare coated with an antiseptic solutlon. To permit passage of sound, yet arrest any germ laden moisture delivered from the speakerslips,-the wall 15 is perforated the drawing, and parand 3, the cap of my with ,two slits 16 and 17 relatively at sub-" stantially right angles,
the resultant tapered tongues -18-18 being alternately bent in- 1 20; the flange, when the capis 1n-v serted, embracing the outer margin 21 of themouthpiece and the portion 20 frictionally" impinging the outer surface of the mouthpiece, thus temporarily sufficiently retaining the sanitary. cap.
In' the modified form of the invention, all
the features of the preferred form are ad-- fhered to, with the exception that perfora:
It will be observed that the features of a cap wherein are the moisture arresting but sound liberating bottom or end wall, retaining flange, and antiseptic impregnation, and
provided in the wall 15 instead the coating and the impregnating antiseptic mediums, without departing from the spirit of the invention and scope of the claims.
What I claim is 1. The combination with a telephone mouthpiece, of a sanitary cap therefor comprising a tapering body composed of relatively thick paper provided with an end wall of thin paper perforated.- and a flange on one 'a frusto-conical hollow end of said body for engagementrwith the mouthpiece.
2. An article of manufacture, comprising body composed of parafiine paper having a relatively thin end wall providedwith cross slits, the tongues formed thereby being bent alternately inwardly and outwardly of the said end wall.
3. An article of manufacture, comprising a frusto-conical hollow body composed of paraffine paper having a relatively thin end wall provided with cross slits, the tongues formed thereby being wardly and outwardly of thesaid end wall, and an annular flange on the larger end of said body.
In Witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 29th day of April A. D., 1921.
