l FOUNTAIN PEN.
`vticularly for employment by bookkeepers and others requiring means for making entries or notations at different times and under certainconditions in red and black ink; and furthermore to provide in a pen of this type means for readil controlling the feed alternatively from t e reservoirs for the diiferentcolored inks and for guarding against leakage and confusion of the con tents of the ink reservoirs; and .with these vobjects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of arts of which a preferred embodiment is s own in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side view of a pen embodying the invention.
aol
Figure 2 is a central longitudinal sec tional view of the same.
vThe barrel or stock 10 which is of cylin drical or tubular form is divided longitudinally by a partition 11 to form the separate ink reservoirs or chambers 12 and 13, and the tip 14 which carries the pen point 15 is removably attached to one end of said lbarrel or stock b means of the threaded joint 16, said tip eing removable to facilitate the filling of the reservoirs and having the canals 17 and 18 united to form a common feed channel 19 leading to the pen oint, said canals being normally y means of valves 20 and 21 seated in the inner ends thereof -which are respectively in communication with said reser-` voirs.
Carried by the barrel or stock at the opposite end from the tip is a head 22 having threaded engagement as shown at 23' with the barrel and consisting of the independently revoluble sleeves 24 and 25 carried by a thimble 26. Said sleeves are interiorly threaded for enga ement respectively with the followers 2 and 28 consisting of plugs to which are respectively attached the upper ends of stems 29 and 30 Specification of Letters Iatent.

which are connected with the valves. These sleeves should be distinctly marked to indlcate the character or color of the inks respectively contained in the reservoirs controlled by the valves actuated respectively thereby, to the end that when ink of a selected color is desired the proper sleeve may be rotated to retract the related tollower to open the corresponding valve and thus permit the iow of the selected ink to the pen point, and in order to normally secure the sleeves against rotation to prevent accidental unseating of the valves lookinV means are provided for the same consisting of the catches 31 and 32 assoelated respectively with the sleeves 24 and and carried for example, as illustrated in the drawing, by the shank of a pocket clip 33 secured to the barrel or stock.
The upper end of the barrel is fitted with a closure 34 through guide openings in which the valve stems extend, and in con tact therewith is an absorbent packing disk 35 of felt or its equivalent to act as a means of preventing leakage beyond the upper end of thebarrel, the said packing disk being peripherally elongated by the contact therewith of the lower edge of the sleeve 25.
The invention having been described what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A fountain pen having a compartmental tubular barrel or stock fitted at one 'end with a tip carrying a pen point and at the other end with a head having independently revoluble sleeves, said tip having canals in communication respectively with compartments of the barrel or stock and fitted with controlling valves operatively connected respectively with said sleeves.
-2. A fountain pen having a compartmental tubular barrel or lstock fitted at one end with a tip carrying a pen point and at the other end with a head having indeendently revoluble sleeves, said tip having independent canals in communication respectively with the compartments of the barrel or stock and united to form a common feed passage to convey ink to the pen point, and valves for respectively closing said canals operatively connected with said sleeves.
3. A fountain pen having a ccmpartn mental tubular barrel or stock fitted at one end with a tip carrying a pen point and at the other end with a head having independently revoluble sleeves, said tip hav- Q u l ing canals respectively in communication with the compartments of the barrel or stock and fitted with controlling valves, and followers'actuable respectively by said sleeves and connected respectively with the stems of said valves.
4. A fountain pen having a compartmental barrel or stock fitted at one end with a removable pen point carrying a tip lhaving ink conveying canals respectively in communication with the compartments of the barrel and fitted at the other end with a head having independently revoluble internally threaded sleeves, valves foi` respectively closing said canals, followers" mounted in and having threaded connec tion respectively with said sleeves and having connectionrespectively vvlth the stems of said valves, and means for independently locking said sleeves against rotation.
5. A fountain pen having a compartsleeves against rotation, sai provided at its upper end with a closurev disk through which the stems of the valve with .said sleeves and having connection re-' "spectlvely with the stems of said valves,
and 1means for independent] locking said barrel being extend, and an absorbent packing disk disposed upon said closure disk and held in place .by said head.
In testimony whereof he aiixes his signature.
