' EXTENSIBLE BOOKRACK. v- .APPLICATION FILED SEPT-81 192i.

38y a361: /NVENT0 WWI/ 7 I ATTORNEY JOSEPH A. KRIVACS, OF MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK.
, EXTENSIBLE BOOKRAGK,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 9, 192 2.
Application filed. September 8, 1921. Serial No. 499,314.
To all whom concern:
Be it known that I, JosnPH A. KRIvAos, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at the village of Mount Vernon, county of Westchester, State of New York, have invented an Improved Extensible Bookrack, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates generally to book racks.
Among otherobjects of my invention is to provide a convenient, and neat book rack of a pleasingdesign to support a book while being read, with means for collapsing the frame when not in use.
For this and other purposes I provide an extensible book rack comprising a carriage or support for the book, this is carried by a pair of extensible lever arms. The rack is detachably mounted on a pivotal bearing adapted to be clamped to a chair arm and the other end of the rack may be provided with a spring clutch to engage the other arm of the chair.
I thus provide by a novel construction and arrangement of parts, a book rest or carriage which is collapsible and dismountable, occupying but little space when not in use, easily portable and light and durable.
Having thus generally described some of the objects and general features of my invention I will now particularly describe the same bv reference to the annexed drawing in which similar reference characters indicate identical parts.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a front view of a structure embodying my invention and Figure 2 1s a side view of'the same showing the clutch bearing engaged with a chair arm.
In the drawing the pivotal bearing 1, is shown as a clamp adapted to engage a chair arm comprising arms 2 and 3 secured by a screw bolt & and nut 5, at'the free end and pivoted on the bolt 6 at the other.
The arm 2 is pierced to receive a pivot 7 as shown. The vertical arm 8 having the pivot 7 at its lower end has pivotally mounted thereon the links of one mate of the pair of extensible lever arms 9, 9 Pivotally attached to the other end of the arm 9 is a book rest or carriage 10, and in like manner the end links of the arm 9 are pivotally attached to the opposite part of the book rest or carriage 10. The outer links of the arm 9* are pivotally attached to a vertical arm 11 which is provided at its lower end with a spring grip or clamp 12 adapted to engage the other chair arm.
I do not confine myself to any specific form of clamp or grip but include any form which may be adapted for the purpose and instead of a clamp or grip the rack may be pivotally mounted on one or more stands The or bases to rest on a shelf or table.
book rest or carriage 10 is provided with an adjustable ratchet arm 13. This is an angle arm having a lip on which the bottom of the 1 conveniently removed by lifting the pivot out of engagement.
Having thus shown specified and described the same I claim as novel and my invention:
1. A book rack comprising in combination a pair of extensible lever arms. a book rest to which the lever arms are severally pivotally secured on opposite sides, twovertical arms to which the opposite ends of the lever arms are respectively secured, a pivotal bear-' ing adapted tozcarry one vertical arm and Y a grip carried by the other vertical arm.
2. A book rack'comprising in combination,
apair of extensible lever arms, a book rest to which the lever arms are severally pivotally secured on opposite sides. two vertical.
arms to which the opposite ends of the lever arms are respectively secured, a pivotal bearing adapted to carry one vertical arm and a support for the other vertical arm.
Signed at New York in the county of New York and State of New York'this 1st day of September, A. D. 1921.
