To all wlw/m, t may concern:
Be it knownthat I, PAUL I-IossrELD, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Bad Harzburg, Germany, have inventedjcertain new and useful Improvements in Ventilating-Hood-Lifting Devices, (for which'I have filed applications in Germany, April 22, 1916; Austria, Aprilv28, 1917; Czecho-Slovakia, June 28, 1918; Switzerland, June 11, 1917, Patent #77894, and Hungary, Feb rua-ry 26, 1918,) of which the following 1s a specification.
My invention refers to ventilator hoods and more especially to an adjusting devlce for such hoods.
Devices for lifting ventilator hoods in which foldable frame or shears serve aslthe lifting device and in which tipping over is avoided by means 0f guides, are already known.
My invention substantially consists in a second frame of links the free joint of which slides in guides, being interposed between the fixed turning point of the lifting device and the movable turnin point on the ventilator hood to be lifte.
In comparison with similar devices already known my new adjusting device has the advantage that it requires materially shorter guides, in order to give suiicient security against tipping over, and does not require special hoods for protection against rain.
In the drawings afhxed to this specification and forming Vpart thereof, different modifications of a lifting` device for ventilator hoods embodying my invention, are illustrated by way of example. In the drawings- Fig. 1 is an elevation of one modification,
Fig. 2 being a vertical cross-section.
Figs. 3 and 4f are diagrams of different modifications.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the draw ings the new device consists of a shears formed by four shanks a, the lower linking point I) of which is connected to a fixed part c of the roof construction, whilst the upper linking point al is attached to the ventilator hood e to be shifted. Between the shanks a. of the shears a frame of links d, f, g, h, is provided, the lower linking point g of which slides in guides z', thus securing the shears a with the ventilator hood e against tipping.
The one lower shank a. of .theshiears is ex?" tended beyond the lower 4linking point lbso acounterweight Z which balances the weight of-the' ventilator` hood :e tending to collapse the shears a.' Extending the shearsl and the consequent lifting of the ventilator hood is effected yby exerting tension or pressure on the rod la. In the modification illustrated by way of example, in Figs. ll and 2` the bar is is not connectedto the traction element (traction rod/m.) effecting the adjustment, directly, but under insertion of two rammed May 9, 1922'.
bars n and o forming a triangle with the bar 7c. In this manner the traction rod m is only required to perform a much smaller vertical motion in raising and lowering the ventilator hood e than if it acted' directl upon the end of the rod v. Besides that, the
tensile force acts in a pressing'sense upon one of the intermediate linking points of' the shares a through the agency of the bar n in an advantageous manner.
The foldable frame serving as a guide may also be arranged so as to have a different common linkin point withthe shears a than the one (d) se ected in Fig. 1. Fig.
3 is an arrangement of the foldable frameV which is symmetrical to that of the preceding modification, the fixed turning point of the shears being here chosen as the common linking point.l
Fig. 4 is a further modificationof thel invention in which the foldable frame is arranged at the side inv relation to one of the intermediate linking points p. A point4 to be noted in connection with this modification consists in its being possible to omit the shanks of the shears dotted in in the drawing, without the effect of the device being impaired. The shears forming the lifting device are thus converted into 'a simple toggle lever.
I claim: v
1. In a device of the kind described in combination, a fold'able frame having a fixed linking point, links pivoted to two adjoining arms of said frame and having their free ends pivoted to each other and a vertical guide for guiding said free ends and means for operating said frame.
2. In a .device of the kind described in combination, a foldable vframe having a 55 l asto form jthebarc whichis v,provided withl l lixed linking point, links forming with two adjoining arms of said frame, another foldable frame and means for guiding the free linking point of said latter frame in a vertical direction and means for operating said first frame.
3. In a device of the kind described in combination, a foldable irame having a iXed linking point, links forming with two adjoining arms of said :frame another foldable frame and means for guiding the free linking` point of said latter frame in a vertical direction, one arm of the iirst frame being prolongated beyond its linking point and a counterweight on said arm, and means for operating said first frame.
4. In a device of the kind described in
