* UNITED ST PA E T. F IB EDWARD BRUCK, orv SPOKANE, wnsnnveron.
I COMBINED HUMIDIrIEn AND PALETTE- Ar'rnonMENr;
Be it known that I, EDWARD Bnuox, a
citizen ofthe United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of-Spokan'e and new and useful Improvements in Combined Humidifier and Palette Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention'relatesto an improved combined humidifier andpalette attachment designed especially for use by professional and amateur painters for preserving the paints or colors in moistened condition and for economizing in the use of the paints or colors by eliminating to a great extent the waste accompanying the use of the colors or paints on the palette. v
- The primary object- 0f the invention is a receptacle or box in which thecolors may be stored and kept in fresh condition ready for use at any moment, and which is accessible for storing or withdrawin the paints or colors as required, and in w ich certain elements of the humidifier are adaptable for bodily extraction from the humidifierand direct application to the palette when ready for painting. The invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts of the humidifier and its accessories whereby a portion of the humidifier may be converted for use with the palette when required, and, when combined with the humidifier'forms one of the co-operating elements thereof for performing the required functions of a device of this character. In the accompanying drawings one complete example of the physical embodiment ofthe invention is illustrated, the parts being' combined and arranged according to the best mode I have so far devised for thepractical application of the principles of my invention.
lVhile I shall hereinafter refer to the device as a humidifier-for paints or colors, it
should be understood that I'do not confine or container, the interior of which contains the novel features of the present invention. Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the lid of the box with its humidifier at tachment at the underside, and normally located within the box.
vmovable humidifier, partly broken. awayffor convenience of illustration, and designed .to
form the false. bottom of the box; State of Washington, have invented certain vFigure 4 is a transverse sectional View of --the.h umidifier with allparts in position.
Specification ofI lettersPatenth PatentedMay2,1922... Application filed April 12, 1921. Seria1No.460,86 0 I i tangular and oblong in shape," but, maybe made of desired size and shape and be orna-,- mented, eitherbyits own configuration, or by. the additional use of, ornamental'jfea-i tures, and is provided with a lid 2 of like materiahsizeandshape. The lid is of spe cial construction and embodies a chamber 3 With a bottom wall 4. perforated, as shown, andthe chamber is adapted tocontai-n an absorbent material, as felt, 5. A removable, false bottom Gis provided for the box, which is in fact a sealed, flat box with a perforated top 7 and its interior chamberS contains an absorbent material as 9. Thus the interior of the box 1 is provided with two humidiare re'movable from the box-1, it will readily be apparent that they may beproperly preand humidify the air in the box 1, andthe humid air of course will maintain the colors or paints within the box 1 in a moistened condition. v Preferably the paint is kept on trays as 10 and 11, which may be of'aluminum or other 7 sheet metal ofthe proper size and shape,
and these trays are designed for use with the palette 12 through the instrumentality of the spring clips 13 on the underside of the trays that are adapted to fit over the edge of the palettein convenient position so that the paints or colors may be kept in the stalls 14 of the trays, for use when required. r ,7 f
' not be closed, and to permit tree movement from the palette, and maintains the trays in.
When the trays are stored in the box with their stalls containing the paints'or colors the humid air keeps the paints in .proper moist condition and prevents drying out,
and it will be noted in Figure 4 that the spring clips serve to elevate the trays above thefalse bottom or humidifier in order that the peritorated'top of the false bottom will of the humidified air up past the trays into the body ofthe box 1; The resiliency of the clipsl3 permits the ready and facile attach ment and'd'etachment of the trays to and position for use'While on the palette.
h In Figure 6 the palette is illustrated as equipped with the trays and ready for use, a
short tray-being employed at one end and a longer tray attached to one of the sidesof the palette. The difierent colors or paints are placed in'their respective stalls.
and the colors mixed, as usual, on the palette,-but it will be-noted that/only the colors desired for immediate use andthe quantity desired for immediate use, are
placed on the palette, and consequently there immediate use are placed directly on the palette.
Care may be taken of the brushes also of the brushes, when not in use, by depositing them in the boX before the trays areplaced therein, and then laying the trays on top of the brushes, With the same beneficial efiects on the brushes as are attained for the paints or colors.
The different parts of the device are made of rust-proof metal, and the box should-of course be substantially airtight in structure to prevent escape of the hum-1d atmosphere and to prevent ingress of dust.
- Having th-us'fully describediny invention,
what I claim' as-new and desire-to secure by Letters Patent is- I l. The combination ina box as described having a close-fittinglidand a" hollow, false bottom, removable, and containing absorbent material, 01": trays having paint stalls as described, and clips on the underside of said trays resting on the false bottom for elevate ing the trays to permit circulation of humid fitting lid provided with an interior humidifying member, a removable false bottom contamlng an absorbent mater al and fashloned 2. The combination in aboX having a close with a perforated top, of a tray'havin-g paint 7 stalls, and clips on the'under side of said tray resting on the perforated top for elevating the tray to permit circulation of humid air. 7
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
