The invention possesses novelfeatures of construction and arrangement, and some of these are adapted for dispensing liquids other :than liquid soa and hence in the drawings forming a par of our application we illustrate aliquid soap dispensing apparatus and also an-ink dispensing. apparatus, one construction being. a modification-ofcertain features of the otherconstruction and the ink dispensing apparatus being adapted for discharging ink from a large bottle intov an 'inkstandor into a fountain pen'or other receiver.
Liquid and liquidsoap dispensers of various kinds have heretofore been constructed, and many of them are more orless complex, expensive and'un-certam in thelr operation,
and our aim has been 'toprovide a liquidsoap d spenser of reliable character andcapable of being sold at very small expense and at the same, time a dispenser which is light in weight and capableof use onan ordinary wash or toilet stand, it being unnecessary that the liquid soap dispenser should be .more than about three and .onerhalf inches in height and about two inches in width: at its top. Within the receptacle is applied a vertical cylinder or barrel 18 which is preferably of pyroxylin material and at its upper end is secured by pyroxylin cement within a downwardly extending flange 19 formed around a hole at the center of the cover 11. The cylinder 18 is enlarged'at its upper end, as shown, whereby a shoulder 20 becomes formed therein at a suitable distance below the upper end of the cylinder,
and below the shoulder 20 the cylinder is preferably provided with vent holes 21. A discharge tube 22 for the soap is connected to the cylinder 18, preferably by pyroxylin cement, and said tube 22, which. is preferably of pyroXylin material, issecured near ts upper end within a flange 23 extending downwai'dly around a hole formed in the cover 11 for said tube. lhe upper portion of the tube 22 is bent laterally to form a discharge spout 24 extending outwardly beyond the vertical plane of the receptacle 10. The lower ends of the cylinder 18 and tube 22 are enclosed by a cap25 of pyroxylin material cemented in place, and this cap at one edge forms a chamber 26 into which the lower end of'the tube 22 op'ens and which is in communication with the'lower end of the cylinder 18 through a port 27 formed in the side wall of said cylinder.
Thecap 25 has an opening 28 in its bottom, this opening being less in diameter than the diameter of the cylinder 18, and uponthe "upper surface of the bottom of the cap 25 is placed a disk 29, preferably of pyroxylin material, which is held in position between the upper surface of the bottom of the cap 25 and the lower edgesof the cylinder 18, as shown in Fig." 1. The disk 29 is slit on the line of a part of a circle, as at 30, so as to form in said. disk a flap valve 31, which is connected integrally with the disk 29 by a narrow neck portion 32, which, being of flexible material, permits the valve 31 to be moved upwardly from the bottom of the cap 25 and returned, at the proper time, down against said bottom and over the opening 28 therein. When the flap valve 31 is in its lower position, shown in Fig. 1, it closes the opening 28 and at thattime no soap'may enter the cylinder 18, but when the flap valve 31 is'drawn upwardly by the action of the piston hereinafter referred to, the soap may enter the cylinder 18 through the opening 28 and pass thence into the chamber 26'and tube 22. i

1 and 6, due to our construction, is quite inexpensive and has proven to be of high efliciency. We employ an elastic band 39in lieu of a metal spring, because hf the non con' rosive character of the rubber and because in'case of breakage it may readily be renewed by anyone having the apparatus, since on the withdrawal of the piston rod 33 from the cylindrical barrel 18 it will carry the gu de 38 w th it, thus exposing all of the 7 the cap connecting the barrel 46 and tube 47 26 at the lower end of the instrument,-49 the parts carriedwith the rod 33 and permitting of the ready application of a new band 39 whenever required. d
We seat the lower end of the barrel 18 and cap 25 upon the ribs 14 and within the recess 13 formed in the bottom of the receptacle 10, since this serves to steady the barrel 18 centrally within the receptacle and permits of the discharge of the liquid soap until substantially all of the same has been consumed. The ribs 14 are spaced apart so that the soap may pass between the same andldecome pulled upwardlythroughi the opening 28 in the bottom of the cap in an'efiicient manner. v

A dispenser'of the characterydescribed comprising a receptacleadapted"tocontaini liquid, an air tight removable closure for the 1 :upperend thereof and means ca ried by sale closure, for effecting the discharge of the liquid in limited quantities, said means comprising a barrel member immersed in the liquid, a discharge tube extending upwardly from and being in communication with the lower end of said barrel member, a cap at the lower ends of said barrel and tube flanged upwardly and connecting said ends andbeing Secured thereto and having an inlet Opening in its bottom, a disk on said bottom and held between the'saine and the lower end of said barrel and having formed therein and integrally therewith, a flap valve to control said opening, a plunger in said barrel, a plunger rod'extending upwardly from saidrpluiiger and having an exposed head, and a spring normally acting to move said rod and plunger towards their upper position, said barrel, tube, cap and disk being of pyroxylin material.

A dispenser of the character described comprising a receptacle adapted 'to contain liquid, a closure therefor and means for effecting the discharge of the liquid in limited quantities, said means comprising a barrel member immersed in the liquid-and being "enlargedat its upper portion to form at the base of the enlargement a shoulder,'a dis ,charge tube extending upwardly from and being in communication with thelower end of said. barrel member, a cap at the lower ends of said barrel and tube and connecting "the same and having an inlet opening in its bottom, a valve on said bottom to control said opening, a plunger in said barrel, a plunger rod extending upwardly from said plunger and having an exposed head, a removable guide seated on said shoulder for ,said' rod, and a spring within said barrel engaged with said guide and said .rod and i normally acting tomove said rod and said plunger towards their upper-position] V 5. Ac dispenser ofthe character described -comprising areceptacle adapted to contain liquid and having an open-top recess in its bottom, a closure for said receptacle and means for effecting the discharge of the liquid in limited quantities, said means com-o prising a barrel member immersed in the liquid, a discharge tube extending upwardly f from and being in communication with the J lower end of said barrel member, acap at the lover ends of said barrel member and tube and connecting the same and having an inlet opening in its bottom; a'valve on said bottom to control said opening, and a plungear and plunger rod in said barrel, said cap being seatedin said recess at the bottom ofthe receptacle, and said recess being of greater diameter than said. cap so as to permit the liquid to pass below said cap and enter said barrel through said inlet opening. 7 6. A. dispenser of the character described comprising a receptacle adapted to contain liquid and hawlngau open-top recess-in its bottomto control said opening, and a plunger and plunger rod in said barrel, said cap being seated in said recess at the bottom of the receptacle and said recess havingon its r bottom spaced apart supporting projections for said cap, and said recess being of greater diameter than said cap so as to permit the liquid to pass below said cap and enter said 7 7 barrel through said inlet opening.

A dispenserof the character described comprising a tumbler adapted to contain liquid, a closure cap closely. fittingupon the same and having two flanged openings and means for effecting the discharge of the'liquid in limited quantities, said means comprising a barrel member immersed in the liquid and secured at its upper'end to :the
flange at one of said openings in the closure, a discharge tube extending upwardly from and being in communication with the lower 3 end of said barrel member and at its upper portion being extended through theother of said open ngs and secured to the flange thereat, a cap on the lowerends of said bar rel member and tube and connecting the same and having an inlet opening-in its" bottom, a valve on said" bottom to control" said opening, a plunger in said barrel, and a plunger rod extending from said plunger ut through said barrel, SELlCl closure cap having a flange to pass downwardly over the upper end of said tumbler and'bodily carrying the said means for effecting the discharge of the liquid.
8. A dispenser of the character described comprising a tumbler adapted to contain liquid, a closure cap closely fitting upon, the
