UNITED srars HENRYN, HEILMAN, 0FA sT. Louis, Missionar'.
couPoN-cutrmNGMAcHiNEj y v To all/whom t may concern.'
Beitknoivn that L' HNRYYN. HEILMAN,
a citizen of the United States, residing atf St.' Louis, Missouri, have invented av new and' useful Coupon-Cutting Machine, of which the following is a full, clear,'and exact description.
My inventioxrrelates to improvements in f paper cutting machines, and particularly to a'manually-operatedmachine which isfdesigned v'and constructed "so asto cut with' a singlev stroke a number ofvf couponsVA from bonds, or-the like, the principalobject of my invention" being vto provide afrelatively,
simple easily` operated machine Which may be easily and cheaply manufactured and which will bevery'effectiveY in performing Aits intended functions.
'Further objects of myinvention are'to provide a. coupon-cuttingmachine with an angular/knife, that is, a knife with one'part of fthe blade disposedv at right angles tothev other partso that, atfone' stroke, the coupon iscut from the bond to which itis attached, along one side and end, and, further, to pro- 'videA onjtheA table of the "machine adjustable stops or' guides which may be utilized for correctly locating the bends` and coupons with respect tothe knife.
YVithv the foregoing and other objects in view, my inventionconsists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of.
proved machine.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, 10 designates a base or bed plate Which serves as a table on which the bonds or like papers are positioned, and projecting upwardly from the sides of said base are posts 11, in the innerfaces of which are formed vertically disposed grooves 12.
Connecting the upper ends ofV postsll is a rail 13 provided at its center with a vertically disposed cylindrical housing 14.-' Pivotally mounted on a transverse pin 15 in the upper portion of this housing is one end of a hand lever 16, and interposed between said Specification of Letterszlateiit. This plunger is adaptedto move lvertic'zally p c through thelower portion:o=f= tliev housing 14;l
and the lovver end of saidplungeris secured t0 mbar 20 which -is'"'Positionedbeneath -ra-il13. f; v c
The ends ofv this bar 20 are arranged for sliding "movement in -the'-y rooyes origuide slots 12, andlixed to anc projecting out;-y
ivardly from the central po-rtionofsaid bar' isan-armf'21. Securedtcfthisarm an-dto the `bar 20 to'onesi-dewthereof is the knife or -cutting-1elementof thema'chine, said knife y, comprising a jbilade kof b1odyp;ortio'n-.22`, With"A one -endf-of Which Y' is formed integral a.y blade 'v 2,3,y the same being: disposed` atf rightA angles i to the blade orzbody 22.' The jloiver'edgesof the-blades 22 and 23 'arebeveled land-sharp# ened to'form cuttingfedges.

25 of Woodor likelmaterial Formed in'the 1f basel() near itsside fand frear edges are slots 26 and f adjustably arranged therein are` screws 27, to the-upper V'en'dsof `^vvliichy are secured guide rails 28, thesameV servingto assist ini correctly f loca-ting on theY base or table theisheet's l from which thel couponsar@ tabernay It fwilli Abe -understo-od'that 'the spring 17 i maintains handle 16 in vanelevated position, Y consequently, bar 2O and l"thef angularknife y carried thereby are flield atv their u pper flimit f' of'movemeiit'.d The-bonds from Wh'iclfi:the\ Y Y coupons'areto be cuti-i'are# placed `in a= pile, f 'f' one on top of another and saidbonds are now placed on the table against the rails 28,
and which, latter have been properly `ad.

Which action forces the'edges lofsaidblade through thesheets positioned on the table;
be cut or severed from said sheets, the lines 105. c and a. vcorresponding series of coupons Will n of severance being along onezside and end of each coupon. Thus by my improved form ofcutting blade a coupon isl cut from the bond or sheet to Which it is attached, along tivo edges at the same time and as a result much time and labor can besaved in the operations incident to the cutting of coupons and the like. i
Obviously, minor changes in the details of construction of my improved machine may be made without departing from thel scope of the appended claims.
I claim vas my inventionl. In a coupon cutting machine, a table,
uprights thereon, a bar arranged for vertical .movement between said uprights, an arm projecting outwardly :trom said bar and at right angles thereto, ablade secured to said bar and arm, said blade having portions arranged at right angles to each other there being grooves formed in the table directly below the cutting edgesoi` the blades strips of relatively soft material positioned in said grooves and adjustable guides arranged on said table to the sides and rear of said stripsl `V of material.v
2. In a coupon cutting machine, a table, uprights thereon, a bar arranged for vertical movement between said uprights, an arm projecting` outwardly from said bar and at right angles thereto, a blade secured to-said bar and arm, said blade having portions arranged at right angles to each other, means for moving` said barvertically between said uprights there being grooves formed in the table directly below the cutting edges of the vblades strips of relatively soft material positioned in said grooves and adjustable guides arranged on said table to the sides and rear of said strips of material.
3. In a coupon cutting machine, a table,
adjustable work guides arranged on said ment between said uprights, an arm proJ jecting outwardly from said bar and at right angles thereto, afv blade securedA to said bar and arm, said blade having portions arranged at right angles to each other means for actuating said plunger there being grooves formed in the table directly below the cutting edges of the blades strips of relatively soft material positioned in said grooves and adjustable work guides arranged on said table to the sides and rear of said strips of material.
5. In a coupon cutting machine, a table, woodenstrips inserted in the top of said table and disposed at right angles to each other, adjustable 'work guides on vthe table vand disposed immediately to the sides and rear of Vsaid wooden strips, a member arranged for vertical movement above the table, and a blade carried by said member,
said blade having portions arranged at right angles to each other, the lower edges of which blades arev adapted 'to' engage the wooden strips when moved downward to engage the work positioned on top of the table.
6. A' coupon cutting machine comprising a bed-plate in the top of which are formed grooves disposed at right angles to each other, woodenstrips removably positioned in said grooves, posts at the sides of said bed plate, said postsbeing provided with grooves, a bar having its ends arranged for sliding movement in said grooves, an arm projecting outward from` the center of said bar, a blade having portions arranged atright angles to each other, one portion be-` ing iXed to thefbary and theother portion fixed to the arm, the cutting edge of which blade is adapted to engage the wooden strips when said blade is moved downward to en-k gage theworlr, adjustable work guides on the table, and a spring held ulcrumed handle connected to the bar for moving the same downward to carry the blade through the work.y
In testimony whereof I hereunto lafiX my signature this twentieth day of January, 1919.
