To all whom it may concern:

lle it known that EDWARD H. ROY,.citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, has invented certain new and useful' Improvements in Refrigerators; of which the following is'a specification.

is to provide an improved combination of ice chest and cold storage show case wherein any ordinary type of cold storage show case may be used so that merchants already having such show cases will not find it necessary to discard the same.

A third important object of the invention is to provide an improved combination of this class wherein the ice chest is arranged to permit goods to be withdrawn therefrom directly on top of the show case so that the samples of the goods sold may be kept in the show case and actual sales made from the 4ice chest Without making it necessary for the attendant to leave the show case or disturb the samples therein.

With the above and other` object in view, the invention consists in eneral of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed.

ln the construction here shown, which is to' be taken as generally typical of the invention, there is provided an ice chest or refri erator having an outer casing consisting of inner and outer walls 10 and l1 between Awhich is a'suitable heat insulating packing 12. rlhis casing is provided in its top wit filling hatches 13 and at one side of ,its front is a large door lll. At the other side of the front and immediately above the floor thereof is an opening 15 abovewhich is a door 16. Within the casing and spaced from the walls thereof is an ,ice receiving chamber formed with inner; and outer metallicwalls 17 and 18. Secured to the top edges of the inner side walls l? is a top 19 but the space between the outer walls 18,. which extend above said inner walls 17, is not covered in. There are no ice chamber Walls in front so Ithat this part of the storage space 20, which lies beneath the top 19 and is surrounded on three sides bythe ice chamber is open for access through the doors of the opening l5 with `the show case. The ice chamber is providedwith the usual drain and overflow pipes indicated generally at 2l. The showcase is of the usual general form, being provided on its front top and one end with double walled glazing 22 and having a heat insulating bottom 23. rl`he remaining end of this show case is open and abuts against the refrigerator around the opening 15. .0n the back of the sho/w case are the usual sliding doors 24. From the top of the showcase remote from the refrigerator leads a pipe 25 which is provided with a valve 26 and opens into the upper part of the refrigerator at 27 so as to communicate with the space between the inner wall 10 of the casing and the outer wall 18 of the ice chamber. Under these conditions with the valve 26 open, a current of air will be established from the coldbottom part of the refrigerator through the show case and back through the pipe 25 to the upper part of said refrigerator. It will also be observed that the location of the door 16 is such that articles may be drawn from the refrigerator on to the glass top of the Show case with a minimum of handling. u

There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purposes specified.

lt is obvious that minor changes may be made inthe form and construction of the invention without departing from the material principles thereof. The combination with a refrigerator having an outer casing and an inner storage chamber spaced from the side walls of the outer casing, said inner chamber comprising a removable casing, having spaced inner and outer walls to provide anice receiving space; of a show case having one end open and abutting against the refrigerator said refrigerator being open at its lower part to afford communication to the open end of the show case, and a pipe leading from-the end' of the show case remote from the refrigerater and opening into the space in the refrigerator, between the ice chest and side wall of the casing.

2. The combination with a refrigerator having an outer casing and an inner storage chamber spaced from the side walls of the outer casing, said inner chamber comprising a removable casing having spaced inner and outer walls to provide an ice receiving space; of ashow case having. one end open and abutting against the refrigerator, said refrigerator bein open at its lower part to afford 'communication to the open end of the show case, and a pipe extending upward from the top ofthe show case at the end remote from the refrigerator and then extending horizontally to a point adjacent to the top of the refrigerator, said pipe being continued and opening into the space in the refrigerator between the ice chest and the side wall of the storage chamber adjacent to top of said refrigerator, said pipe being provided intermediate its ends with a out o valve.
