It will be apparent also, that the extent of the tractl'ire of the boltwill be approximately equal to thelfall below the predetermined pressure, as indicated by the gage, and thus the devicewili denote, not only the presence of a fracture o'fthe bolt, but" also the approximate magnitude of such fracture. Q A deVice for testing boiler staybolts havingtell-tale bores, comprising a portable member, a movable nozzle carried by said member, said nozzle having a free end to engage a, staybolt at the openend of the tell-tale bore thereof, ,means for applying fluid pressure to the movable nozzle to press tliersanie against the staybolt, said member provided ,vvith means whereby fluid under pressure may pass through said nozzle and into the tell-tale bore of the bolt, and a pressure gage for denoting such pressure. 3. i device for testing boiler staybolts having tell-tale bores, comprising a head 'having a chamber, a nozzle movably connected with said head and having a free end adapted to engage a stay bolt at the open end o'f the bore, means whereby fluid under pressure may pass through said nozzle and enter the tell-tale bore of the bolt, means wherebypressure will tend to pressthe nozzle toward the staybolt and maintain a tight fit betweensaid nozzle and the staybolt, and
.a pressure gage for denotingthe degree of pressure in the tell-tale bore of the bolt.
1 4. :A staybolt testing device, comprising a chambered head, a diaphragm closing the chamber of said head, a nozzle secured to said diaphragm, said nozzle having a part in the chamber of the head and a part pro jecting beyond the diaphragm and adapted for application to the tell-tale bore of a stay bolt, means for conveying fluid under pres sure to the chamber in the head and to said nozzle, and a pressure gage {or denoting the degree of pressure sustained by the stay bolt. 5. A staybolt testing device, comprising a chambered head and a handle portion having a duct communicati' g with the chamber in the head, a diaphragm closing said chamber, a nozzle secured to and passing through said diaphragm, said nozzle having a part to communicate with the duct in the handle portion, and also havinga part projecting beyond the diaphragm for application to the tell-tale bore of a stay bolt, and a pressure communicating with said duct. 6. Astay bolt testing device, comprising a chambered head and a handle portion having a duct communicating with the chamber in said head, a ring threaded into one end oi the chambered head, a diaphragm held in place by said ring, a spider on said ring having a,hub,vav nozzle passing through and secured to said diaphragm and" adapted for applicationto the tell-tale bore of a stay bolt, said nozzle passing through the hub oi: said spider, and a pressure gage communieating with the duct in the handle portion.
