To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMU L ANDERSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Wisconsin, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Building Blocks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' The object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive efficient building block suitable as a unit for constructingwalls and having side surfaces especially adapted to hold wall plaster.
Generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
It is a well known fact that small bits Of lumber in a mill or elsewhere are usually Wasted or used for kindling. My invention provides an important use for such odds and ends.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like notations refer to like parts throughout the several views. r

The numeral 5 indicates the lengthy'tie membersof my building block and tithe short transverse cross members, which project slightly beyond the lengthwise edges of said tie members 5, affording grooves 7 by their said projections. The tie'members 5 are spaced widely apart to use as little lumber as possible and still assure-a strong block. The cross members 6 .are spaced slightly apart to form chinks 8 on the sides of the wall which, with the'said grooves 7, furnish a good surface for plaster to cling to.

When a wall is built, the projectingly arranged end of one block is set on the stepped end of another block and the successive steps and projections exactly fit.
A key 10 is inserted between the adjacent tie members 5 of two joined blocks, as shown in F 1g. 4, and locks said blocks together, giving'them the necessary solidity.
When a vertical end is needed for the ends of a wall or for a window casing 11, the
block may be sawed Off to form a fiat vertical edges fitting snugly together, and keysare fitted to the adjoining blocks of each layer.
Such a construction makes a strong sub stantial wall having both its sides well.
adapted to hold plaster, suitable for outside or inside use. 'The expense of such a construction is little, for waste odds and ends are used in the making of my blocks.

A unit building'block having comple-- mentary oblique ends fitting snugly and tightly with their respective complementary ends of other similar blocks to form a wall, said block comprising layers of long tie members and layers of short transverse cross members projecting slightly beyond the longitudinal edges of the said tie members and forming grooved side surfaces adapted to receive plaster.
