ALBERT EDWARD ARMSTRONG, on OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA, AssIeNoR To JAMES LYMAN ARMSTRONG, OF OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA.
l 'o llico/110m imag cof/120cm.' Y
' Be it known that l, ALBERT EDWARD ARM- STRONG, a subject of'the King of Great Britain, a resident of the city of Ottawa, Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Trusses, of which the following is a specification. n This invention relatesto improvements in trusses, and the objects of the invention are to provide a simple and effective means for regulating the pressure of the truss pad. s
Further objects of the invention are to generally improve and simplify 'f the construction of the truss and to adapt the working parts to better perform the functions re" quired of them.
VIt consists essentially of the improved construct-ion hereinafter describedin detail in the accompanyingspecication and drawings.`
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the truss.
Figure 2 is a plan view. Y
Figure 3 isa cross sectional detail through one of the pads. Y
Figure L is a sectional detail through the spring in the pad when extended.
Figure 5 is a sectional detail of the means .for regulating the spring tension on the pad.
Like characters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures. v
Referring to the drawings; A and B represent tlie spring side membersof the truss comprising' spring wire encased with leather or other material such as is well known in the art having at the end pads C and D adapted to bear against the back of .the
wearer.
The forward ends of the members A and VB being connectedrby flexible wirerE, theY end of the member'A having a dummy 'pressure pad F thereon.

end ofthe pressure rod extending' into a recess 19 and a bracket member 11.,"
" The extent to which it extends in the re-` cess is regulated by'meansfofV a regulating 651 screw 20 having screw threaded engagement with the open outer end' of the recess.
yIt will be observed that the recess 19 fits closely to therod 18 at oneend and is enlarged and iiiternally-screw threaded at the oppositev end toy receive the regulating screw 20. Y Y
It will be seen that the extentof pressure exerted will be lregulated by adjusting the screw 20, the further the screw is screwed in, the greater will be the pressure exerted by ber of Vthe truss. y
pad G or on any other niem- Asmany changes could be made in theV abovel construction and many widely different embodiments ofmy invention within the scopeof the claim constructed without de- Y parting fromY the spirit orscope thereof, it
is intended that all matter contained'in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted asillustrative and not in a limiting sense. l
Ti-What I claim as my invention is In a truss, a pressure pad having a rod .connected theretoa. supporting wire,`con
necting bracket'forined with a perforation Vthrough which the wire extends, the said bracket being formed witharecess extend` 'ing transverselyl ofthe perforation and adapted to receive the rod'ofthe pressure v pad, the said recess being constricted at one end to ft th'e'piessure rodand being enlarged and internally screw threaded at the opposite end, aY regulating screw extending into the screw threaded portion of the recess and adapted to abut the said rodi, said screw being adjustable from the exteriorV of the clothing of the wearer, means for retaining K member in adjusted position' on the wire. I
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand. I Y l ALBERT EDWARD ARiiisTRoNor.y
