DISPENSING SHOWCASE.
Application filed April 29, 1921 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, James Visitor. Toner, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of the village of Tara, county of Bruce, Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Showcases described. in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, that form part of the same.
The principal objects of the invention are to effectively display granular and. free running oods in such a manner that the displayed goods will not remain stagnant but will be utilized as the goods are dispensed. A further object is to facilitate the dispensing of the goods and to provide means for submitting samples from the saleable stock in an attractive manner.
The principal features of the invention consist in the novel construction and arrangement of parts whereby a portion of the goods contained in the case is placed in a separate chamber having a transparent front and the displayed goodsand "those contained in the body of the case are directed into a common dispensing chamber at the bottom, and whereby a passage from the bottom of the displaychamber is intercepted.
by a sampling drawer.
In the drawings 1 is a perspective front view of my improved display case. Fig. 2 is a vertical mid-sectional view. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
side of the case, the bottom thereof being arranged about one quarter of the total.
height of the case above the bottom of said case.
A panel 8 is spaced a short distance back of the glass frame; being here shown supported in grooved guides 9 arranged on the inner side walls and slidable therein so that it may be readily removed to allow the inner side of the glass being cleaned. A

backwardly sloping partition. 10 is arranged in slop ng guides 11 at the top of the panel. 8.,
A display compartment is thus formed at the front of the case into which the goods are poured when the case is being filled. The bottomof this compartment is formed by a sheet metal strip 12 which is formed with upwardly sloping ends 13 and intermediately arranged sloping surfaced portions lei. Between the sloping surfaced portions of the strip 12 are formed. the orifices 15; 16 and 17. The outer orifices lead into the dispensing chamber 18 at the forward end of the sloping bottom so that the goods contained in the display chamber flow freely into the dispensing chamber as the goods are removed though the flow is somewhat slower than-that ofthe larger body in the main portion of the case.
A pair of parallelly arranged strips 19 extends inwardly from the front'of the case below the strip 12 and these meet and are secured to the sloping bottom 1% and'betwecn these strips back of the panel 8 is arranged a rigid cover 20 preferably of sheet metal which directs the goods on to the side portions of the bottom 4.-
each side of the strips 19.
Beneath the cover 20' aiidbetween the strips19 is slidal'wly supporteda drawer 21 into which samples of the goods may be directed through the central opening 16 in the bottom 12 of the display compz-irtment. A. sliding shutter 22 is arranged immediatel; below the bottom 12 to close the opening 16 and when this is drawn out as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the goods will flow into the drawer.
The drawer 21 is preferably formed with a hopper bottom having a central opening 23 which is closed by a slide 24 which upon replacing of the drawer may be opened to allow the sample to drop into the dispensing chamber.
The dispensing opening 3 at the back is closed by a suitable door 25 which is here shown as arranged to slide in vertical guides though it may be arranged otherwise if desired.
In the use of this device, the goods are poured in at the top, care being taken to fill the front compartment above the glass panel after the bottom of the main compartment is filled. The case is arranged in.
a suitable place where the goods will. be dis-- played to advantage but they will. not be exposed to air or dirt, The goods are with drawn by the use oi? a scoop from beneath the sloping bottom 4 and as the goods are withdrawn that contained in the display compartment. flows down with that contained in the main portion, flowing through to holes 15 and 1'7.
If a customer desires a sample the shutter 22 is pulled out allowing the goods to flow into the sample drawer. The shutter is then closed and the drawer is drawn out. When the drawer is returned the slide 24 is operated to clear the goods therefrom.
It will be understood from this dost-ii tion that a case such as described. will enahle the goods'being handled in a most sanitary manner and they will be well displayed. and the displayed goods will always be in circulation. 1 I
