v i 'My present invention is a reel for moving picture films and the like, and the objects of the inventionare' to provide asimple and practical construction, which will enable the film to be removed bodily from the reel without the necessity ofunwindingthe same and,

conversely, which will permit of the film being applied in coiled formfto the reel and The invention involves a number of novel features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafteridescribed in detail. i

The invention ,is wparti cularly useful in connection with machines of the type disclosed in Patent No. 1,116,580, where as I have here illustrated in Figure 4L, the coil of film "2O issup ported on a rotatable re ceiver 21" and the coil is unwound from the center outward and fed through the projector mechanism of the machine. In placing the film in such a machine it is possible with my inventionto simply push the reel down over the rotatable receiver which automatically contracts the spring holding fingers so as to free the removable flange and to drop the same, with the coil of film, down onto the rotatable receiver and therefore in position to be used in the machine.

' What I claim is:

l. A reel of the character describecL-having a removable flange and provided with spring fingers for securing the flange in position and'means on the reel for 'simul' taneously shifting said spring fingers to secure or to release the removable flange.

2. A reel for moving'picture film having a hub provided with radially'shiftable fingers, a removable flange engageable by said fingers and means on'the reel for producing engagement and disengagement of said fingerswith respect to theremovable flange.

3. A reel having a fixed and a removable flange, a seriesof substantially circularly arranged spring fingers carried by the fixed flange, said springfingers and the removable flange having'interlocking parts and ashiftable ringon the fixed flange for controlling engagement and disengagement of the spring fingers with respect to the removable flange.
