Be it known that I, FRANK A. Bonn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsbur h, in the county of Allegheny and State of ennsylvania,.have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cross Chain Emergency Repair Links; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
* This invention relates to links intended for repair use of broken cross or tread chains on tire grips or anti-skid chains, and has for its object the provision of a simple and eflicient link that may be merely hooked to the opposite ends of the broken chain, with the assurance that the link will remain in place without the necessity of having to crush down the return bends of the link.
There are at present a number of repair links on the market, but practically all of these are either inefiicientor are too complicated for general use. The other types are of simpler manufacture but they require that the user bend down the free ends of the link in order to make a satisfactory emergency connection. In the present link no closing down of the ends is required and after a considerable use it has been found that these links positively eliminate the possibility of the link becoming disengaged, the centrifugal forceof the chain when the car is in motion positively holding the link in its proper position. y

The link is formed of an integral piece of round rod, bent to form a back or intermedi- I of the ate portion 10, and return bends consisting of the side members 11 and the ends 12. The sides 11 of the link converge as they turn from the back or intermediate portion of the link, and therefore make an acute angle with a line passing through from the lowest point 19 on either side of the inward bend of the back. The end portions 12 are of approximately the same length as the approximately a right angle a i so that the two ends 12 are deflected 1nward toward the hump of the back. In useing this repair link the idea is merely to hook the opposite ends of the broken chain in each end of the repair link. and in view of the hump portion in the back there is no need to close down the ends of the link. lit is, therefore, easy to remove the repair link when the chains are taken from the tire to replace the emergency link with a welded one. c
What is claimed is:
1. A repair link consisting of a rod of uniform diameter throughout its length bent to form a back having an inwardly directed humped portion, converging side members, each forming an acute angle with said back and ends at substantially a right angle to said sides, whereby said ends are deflected inwardly toward said humped portion.
