To all yw/om t may concern.'
Be it known that MATTHEW B.; O WENS, citizen of the United States, residing at Napavine, in the county of Lewis andfState of Washington, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concretelock Machineaof which the followingisa speci-v fication. A
My invention. relates to a machine for molding concrete blocks, such asareusedfv in the construction of' walls'of houses, andone ot' theobjects of the invention is to provide a machine of this character for making a moisture proof block.` The ordinary concrete" core block has been foundunsatisfactory for the walls of houses, on accountoi' the'V fact' that itis not moisture proof; l This? has led to the development of a two part bloclrcon` nectedV together by! wires, so that". when built up into a wall, there is af, continuous air' chamber through all the wallsof thebuild ing. A block of this type is at presentmade` in what is known asa sideace' machine, which necessitates making the front' half of the block out. of the best .material soas to get a` block which will havea good eX- ternal appearance.
An object of` my invention is to provide a machine whereby a|` block having aslgood an external appearance may be made by the use of only al relatively smal-l quantity This I; accomplish` by making the block inl what-Iy designate as a down face core machine.
With these general objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel and peculiar features of construction and combination of parts as hereinafter described'and claimed; and in order that it may be fully understood reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Referring to the drawings,
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the machine;
F Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2 2,
Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the end cores and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the finished block.
In the drawings Vl is `the supporting stand of the machine to which is secured the rectangular frame 2, comprising a kstrut 3 to Specification of Letters Patent.
1921.` Serial` No; 475,578.
which is. connected by hinges 4jtl1e'moldbox 5. The saidlmoldbox` comprises-end members 6; having. openings 7 through which move the endy cores 8. Through openings 10 in the side ymembers 9 of the mold-box moves ay sider corev 11.
For holding thefmetaltie members 19 'in suitable` position, grooves 20 are provided in they face of the end cores.-
Thefbottomi 21 of the LmoldV box, on it'slini-f nerV side-,.ha`s a molding strip v22to givejthe" appropriate shape to the `face of the molded block. Depending'froml'the topv of the stand 1 at each 23 upon sioni the;endpc'oref` Y Secured to' the-franie2are s'llPPOrtS 285f'or the guide bars 29; reciprocating inlthefsaid guide bars are-thel guides 17' ofthei center core which have extensions 30 for also en# gagmg the saidV guide bars -1Fo1"rec1pro'-A The sides of the mold box are detachable,
vThe operation of my invention is as follows: The side and end cores are withdrawn from projecting into the box. A layer of the best material is sifted into the bottom of the mold and then sufficient of the ordinary material to reach up to the guide cleat 13. into the box by the hand levers 24 and the Patented Mair. {28,1922} endl'of theimold box, are members which is pivotally mountedl'thev handy levers 24, thelsaid levershaving a' slot 26 engaging. 'aj pin 25 carried by t'heexten- The two end cores are then pushed.
clamps y metal tiel members 119. inserted V'in place as shown. The center core 1l is thenimoved sharpened lip 38 cuttingl 'Ihe box is then leased'will have the shape shown in Fig.. 5,
thefrontface Vof the same being of superior material tothemainbody thereof.
Fromthe above description yit will be api parentthatjI'have produced a device-of the character described, which possesses all thef features enumeratedas desirable, andwhile I have ,illustrated andvdescribed the pre-r ferrediform ofthe invention, it will be unlderstood that I reserve the :right` to-V all within the 'f scope:
changes :properly falling and spiritofthe appended claims. n
There what I claim as new andfdesire -to e secure by Letters Patent` is v mold box, end and side cores adaptedrto recip- A roeat'e therein, the saidl cores uniting within- 1.A concrete blockV machine comprising a mold box, endandrside cores adapted 'to' reciprocate ythereiin; the said I cores uniting withink `the mold box to provide athorizontal partition for making a two vpart block;J
v2. a, mold box, end 'and side "coresadaptedto reciprocate therein, the said", cores vuniting within the mold box to prov-idefa horizontal s partitionfor makingiaftwo? part; block, and
apertures through the partition for tying means, to secure-together the'two parts of the-block 'I f i f i= A concrete?,blockmachine 4comprising a a mold box,
whereupon the molded block as reef tal partition `for A concrete block 'machine vcomprising making a two partv block 1 Ttheimold box to provide ad horizontal partition formaking a two part block, the bottom of the mold box being provided with molding Ameans to give the appropriate ,shape tothe face of the block.
4:. A concrete block machine 'comprising a pair of end cores adapted to reciprocate therein, and a side core adapted to reciprocate between the end cores to provide a horizontal partition for making a two part block- 5. A concrete block machine comprising a mold box, a pair of end cores adapted to reciprocate therein, and a sideeore adapted to reciprocate between the end cores to provideV a horizontal partition'for making a two part block and apertures between the said cores for tying means,xto secure together ,the two parts ofthe block.V
