SELF-DUMPING MINE CAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented M 21 1922 Application filed October 9, 1920. Serial 1T0. 415,757.
7 To all whom it may concern:
loaded cars being raised by said hoisting cage when apredetermined level has been reached, the operations of dumping and restoring, the car to original position being effected automatically, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Another object is to adapt the cage for carrying men, mules, supplies, etc, where dumping is undesirable or unnecessary Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a view showlng a mine ho sting cage constructed in accordance wlth my said invention with a loaded car thereon,
normal position being shown in whole lines and the position which the parts occupy when dumped, in dotted lines,
Figure 2, a view looking atthe same parts toward the front end of the car, and
'Figure 3, a section on line 33 of Figure 2,
In said drawings the portions marked A represent the track; or timbers on which the mine cage runs, B the frame of the mine cage, and C the car. 7 These several parts are in themselves of a construction and arrangement substantially like what is in ordinary use or may 7 be of any appropriate construction and arrangement. The hoisting cage B is connected at 10 to any hoisting means operated by any appropriate hoisting power. The cage B carries a main platform comprising fixed side members 10 and a swinging trap or platform 11 hinged to the fixed members at 12 and carrying rails 13 for the car C adapted to connect with the track system of a mine so that the car may be run on and off-the cage as desired. The car it,- self is preferably of the type shown in my Patent No. 1,327,255,1lan. 6, 1920, known as the Reynolds automatic mine car and needs no specific description here. It has a movable bottom'portion hinged at one end and adapted to follow the movableplatform 11 down and up.
The side sills of platform 11 have downwardly projecting portions 14 which are provided with lower inclined faces 15 and 16 sloping down from the front ends of the sills and separated by points 17, and the face 16 terminating in a stop 18. Diagonal supporting rods 19 pivoted at 20, are provided with rollers 21 at their lower ends supported by a shaft 22 held in blocks 23 at the lower ends of bars 19. Rollers 21 extend, under sill extensions 14, and are normally held in position in front of points 17 as shown in Figure 1 by the cam action of faces 15. Rods 19 pass between rollers 2 1, 24; on longitudinal extending bars. 25, guided between fixed bars 26, 26.
At one end of each bar 25 is a roller 27 adapted to bear on a cam 28 and at the other end the bar is reduced to a point 29 adapted to bear on a positioning roller 30.
When the movable platform is lowered to dump the car it is supported at its forward end by a cross bar 31 between two yokes 32 forming a portion of cage B.
On the fixed platform members 10 are provided supports 33 for the body of the car to hold the same up when the bottom is lowered for dumping. Latches 34: are pivoted on the supports to engage the car at each end and hold it in place on the rails 13. When the car is to be run off the cage the latches at one end of the car will be lifted out of the way.
My improved mine cage is also adapted dumping device for special uses such as those indicated. 7
In operation, when my car is lowered, cams 28 will move bars 25 to the right (Fig. 1) whereupon rollers 24 swing bars I 19 to ride away from stop 18 along camface 16 gradually lifting the trap and attached parts and when the rollers pass point 17 and ride against faces 15 the trap is practically locked in place. On the return trip, the parts remain as described untilpoint 29 strikes roller 30* when the: trap: is:
uickly lowered by a reverse operation of t e parts enumerated, which assumethe dotted line position (Fig. 1). The coal or other materialw slidesgently but quickly out of and away from the car, which is then ready to repeat the operation.
My invention. is not limited to the em:
bodiment shown since variousmodifications,
will readily occur to those skilled in the art. The true scope; thereof is indicated by the appended'claims. M
Having, thus fully described-m said in.- vention, what I. claim as new an desire to seoure'by Letters Patent, is: V
