Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES MORIONDI, or NANTERRE-PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR TO SOGIETE ANONYME DES BREVETS PEUFAILLIT, OF LILLE, FRANCE.
PROCESS OF DISINTEGR-ATING VEGETABLE FIBERS FGR USE IN THE TEXTILE AND PAPER INDUSTRIES.
No Drawing.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 9, 1914.
Patented Mar. 21, 1922.
Serial No. 849,971.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L., 1313.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES Moniomn, a -itizen of the Kingdom of Italy, residing at Nanterre-Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Processes of Disintegrating Vegetable Fibers for Use in the Textile and Paper Industries; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in the process of disintegrating vegetable fibres for use in the textile and paper industries. The object of the improvements is to provide a process by means of which the fibers are disintegrated into finely divided form in which they are readily ground for use in the manufacture of paper, and by means of which foreign matter is thoroughly removed and a product is obtained which is partic ularly suitable for the spinning process. ll'ith t iese and other objects in view my invention consists in using certain agents for disintegrating the vegetable fibers which have heretofore not yet been used, and which are hydrocarbons containing chlorine. Such agents are the following:
Dichlorethylene (synr) C H Cl 'lrichlorethylene C HCL, Perchlorethylene 3 01 'letrachlorethane (sym.) C H Cl lentachlorethane G HCl These agents may be used either separately or as a mixture of a plurality thereof for treating fibrous materials.
In order that my improved process be more clearly understood an example embodying the same will now be described.
One or more of the above named agents are added to water or a liquid which is suitable to produce an emulsion, such for example as diluted soap solution, oily emulsion, or the like. In carrying out the process water containing 3 per centage of petroleum has given good results.
After the liquid has been thus prepared the fibrous material is added thereto and heated within a closed vessel at high temperature.
of the fibrous material. In ordinary cases up to 10 per centage by weight of the material to be treated can be used. Also the temperature and the time during which the material is subjected to the process are dif ferent. In some cases it will be advisable to treat the material under increased pressure, which pressure is likewise different according to the nature of the materials to be treated and the results aimed at.
The most favorable conditions are in each case determined according to the nature of the fibrous material, the age of the same, and the time which has elapsed after the materials have been harvested.
I claim herein as my invention:
1. The herein described process of disintegrating fibrous material for use in the textile and paper industries which consists in heating the material together with-hydrocarbon containing chlorine.
2. The herein described process of disintegrating fibrous material for use in the textile and paper industries, which consists in heating the material together with a mixture of hydrocarbons containing chlorine.
3. The herein described process of disintegrating fibrous material for use in the textile and paper industries, which consists in heating the material together with hydrocarbon containing chlorine and under pres- [8 plants consisting in subjecting the i to the action of halogen derivatives of the hydrocarbons.
5. The process for chemically retting fibrous plants consisting in subjecting the plants to the action of halogen derivatives of hydrocarbon emulsified in water.
6. The process for chemically retting fibrous plants consisting in subjecting the plants to the action of chloride derivatives of the hydrocarbons.
7. The process for chemically retting fibrous plants consisting in subjecting the plants to the action of chloride derivatives of the hydrocarbon emulsified in water.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES MORIONDI.
