FOUNTAIN PEN.

To all whom it ma concern:

Be it known that I, LUIGI TADDEO, a citizen-of the United States, and resident of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga 'and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain Pens, of which I hereby declare the following to be a 'full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i

' This invention relates to an. improved fountain pen of the type hereinafter described.

The main object of the invention is to provide a novel, simple, durable and eflicient fountain pen, which includes concealed means for filling the chamber with ink,-

said filling means being so arranged asto occupy a comparatively small amount of space within the chamber. I

A further object of this invention is to provide a reciprocable plunger within the ink holding chamber of the pen, and a plunger rod employed to operate the I plunger which can be disconnected therefrom, and concealed within the chamber when the plunger is withdrawn to the outer end ofsaid chamber after filling the pen.

Another object of the invention is to so construct my novel fountain pen as to furnish. means for guiding the plunger, and plunger rod for making the opening in which the piston passes, fiuid tight, and means for providing an adjustable packing for the plunger adapted to prevent the passage of the. writing fluid past it within the chamber.

The, foregoing and such other objects as may appear from the ensuing description are attained by the construction. arrangement, location and combination of the parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated by the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.

In the accompanying drawings forming a. part of this specification. it will be seen that:

plunger trated, A indicates the cylindrical chamber in which the ink is contained; B is a reciprocable plunger therein, and C is the reciprocable plunger rod which is adapted to pass through said plunger. 7

F is a cap adapted to cover the end of the plunger rod when the pen is not in use; B, is the body of the plun er provided with an extended sc'rew-threade opening G. into which the enlarged screw-threaded inner terminal H, of the plunger rod is connected when the said rod is employed to operate the plunger.

When the plunger has been caused to assume the position shown in F ig. 2, the plun- -the plunger and is adjustably compressed between the body 13, of the plunger and the hard rubber body disk J. by means of the screw-threadedextension K forming a part of said disk. which is adjustably screwed into the opening G. Said washer I is preferably made of felt or other suitable compressible material which will form a liquidtight joint with the inner wall of the chamber.

recess while theinner face of the clamping disk L is formed with a similar recess .L', whereby when the plunger rod is disconnected, from the plunger body B, and

moved back and forth through said plunger, the washer M, will be caused to vibrate and enter-one or the other-of the central recesses formed in the disks J and L, respectively,

' and at the same time tightly embracing said rod and forming a fluid tight connection between said soft rubber washer and the plunger rod.

The outer terminal of the rod is provided with a knob O, or other holding means, suitable for grasping with the fingers, while the inner enlarged screw-threaded terminal of said rod renders it impossible to withdraw the rod through the plunger or through the wall of the chamber until the bearing member therein has been removed.

It will be readily evident that when the washer I becomes worn or loose and fails to make the desired tigh'tcontact with the inner wall of the chamber A, so as to properly draw the ink into said chamber, it can be easily spread at its peripheral edges to in-.

By reference to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the plunger rod C can be easilvdetached from the plunger and positioned within the chamber A, after filling the pen with ink, and that it is quite easy and convenient to .turn said rod so as to thread its inner threaded terminal within the screw-threaded extension G of the plunger, when it is desired to operate the plunger for filling the pen. v

Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure byLetters Patent is:

1. A fountain pen comprising the hollow body, a reciprocable plunger therein formed with a central dependent screw-threaded opening in the lower face of its body, a body disk having a. dependent screw chreaded extension 'adjustably fitted in said opening and formed with a; concaverecessed upper face, an outer-hard clamping disk and a soft rubber washer seated within said recessed face, a compressible washer fitted between said body and body disk, :1 plunger rod having an enlarged screw-threaded inner terminal adapted to detachably engage with said dependent opening, said rod passing through said disks and washers, and the opposed face of the body disk and the hard clamping disk each being provided with a central recess for the purposes set forth.

2. A fountain pen comprising the hollow body, a plunger therein composed of a body member of hard material having a downwardly extended screw-threaded opening, a hard rubber body disk provided with a central screw-threaded downwardly extended portion fitted within said opening and a re- LUIGI TADDEO.
