To all 20 7mm it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN A. Dns Rosinns and MARTIN W. lVnBB, subjects of the King of England, residing at Edmonton in the Province of Alberta and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Signals of which the following is a specification;
This invention relates to a signaling device for automobiles, and has for its primary object the construction of a device that may be readily operated for giving signals to a following vehicle.
An object of the invention is to provide a device, the movable elements of which will be automatically moved to a displaying position upon the releasing ot' a catch of simple construction.
Besides the above our invention is distingiiiished in the manner of constructing the catch so that the parts may be held in inoperative position but upon being released the signaling element will be forced to more to displaying position, and automatically close the circuit of an illuminating device.
Vith these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in corn nection with the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of the wind shield Jshowing the simplest form of our invention, attached thereto.
Figure 2 is a section view of the device illustrating an automatic circuit closure and automatic means for forcing the plunger to displaying position.

In Figure 1 we have shown our lllVGIllJlQTl constructed. in the simplest form consisting of a tube secured to the wind shield 2 by clamps 3. Slidably mounted in each end oi" the tube is a plunger 4. moved to displaying or undisplaying positions by the handle 5 slidably mounted in a slot in the tube. It is of course to be understood that the plunger 4 may have any suitabls configuration and may be colored in various manners to attract the attention of the following vea portion Specification of Letters Patent.

hicle. lVhen the signaling device is used atnight a bulb arranged in the end of the plunger will be illuminated. In Figure 2 we have illustrated an improved form of our invention over that just described. The tube 6 also has slidably mounted in each end a hollow plunger 7 one end of which is formed into a socket S. Secured within the plunger is a. disk 9 of insulating material having centrally arranged a contact 10 for engagement with the center contact of the bulb 11. Thus it will be seen that one terminal ot the bulb is electrically connected to a metallic plunger, while the other terminal abuts the contact 10 which is insulated from the plunger. Held contracted by both plun gers when the latter are moved to their positions within the casing is a coil spring 12 or" a strength to quickly force a plunger to displaying position upon the releasing oil. a device now to be described.
Secured to but insulated "from the plunger is a catch 13 consisting of a strip o'li resilient metal having one end formed into con tact 14;. and its other end formed into a hook 15 which. is arranged to automatically snap into engagement with a fiber keeper 16 secured to the casing. A handle 17 of insulating material secured to the catch onables the operator to force the hook 15 out of engagement with the keeper so that the spring 12 may immediately expand and force the plunger to displaying position. Upon the plunger reaching displaying position the contact 14 engages a second contact 18 for closing the circuit 19 of the bulb thereot, automatically illuminating the bulb when the plunger is in displaying position. A slot 20 is formed in tube 9.0 to accommodiate the slidiuginovement of the catch 13.
It is of course to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners, and the parts associated in other relations. and therefore I do not desire to be limited in any manner except asset forth in the claims hereunto appended.
