I obtainvthe above mentioned objects together with other objects and corresponding accomplishments by means of the embodiment of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

While the device is especially useful for advertising purposes, it may be employed to impart information, such, as for illustration, indicating streets on car routes or stations at which cars or trains may stop.

Cooperating with each carrying diskis a locking guard comprising two disks 13 and 13. Each locking disk has a notch 14. The locking disks are held in selected angular positions with respect to one another by a compression spring 15 mounted on the shaft intermediate the locking guards. In the construct-ion shown herein bushings 16 are slidably mounted upon the shaft between the ends of the spring and the locking disks to cheapen the construction; Spring 15 presses the members of a pair of locking disks against each other, their frictional resistance holding them in adjusted position.
Fixed upon the shaft 10 at one end thereof is a ratchet wheel 17. A base plate 18 serves as a foundation for carrying one j ournal of shaft 10 and the advancing mechanism. Mounted upon the base plate 18 is a black 19. A bracket plate 2O is secured to the block, and pivotally mounted between the plates is a lever 21 carrying at one end a pawl 22 for moving the ratchet Wheel. A retractile spring 23 is secured to the lever 21 find to the base plate. Lever`21 forms the armature for an electromagnet V24 disposed so as to move the lever against the action of spring 23. The winding of electromagnet- 24 is in circuit with a source of electrical energy and an interrupter 25. This interrupter may be mechanically, thermally, 0r otherwise operated so as to make and break the circuit at determined intervals. Upon energizat-ion of the electromagnet, lever 21 is moved Vcausing pawll 22 to advance the ratchet wheel a step.
Mountedin the bloclc19 is an abutment screw 26 for limiting the retracticle movement of lever 21. By adjustment of the screw 26, the magnitude of the steps advanced Jy the ratchet wheel will be regulated. ".Divotally mounted in the other end of block 19 is a locking pawl 27 for preventing the ratchet wheel from being moved in the reverse direction.

A display device comprising the combination of a shaft suitably journalled, spaced carrying wheels mounted on said shaft, a series of display panels pivotally mounted on said wheels adjacent their circumferences by pintles extending parallel to the axis of the wheel, said pintles serving as sup-ports for preceding panels; said panels being detachably mounted on the wheels, and disks secured on said shafts adjacent the points of connection of the panels to the wheels to retain the panels on the wheels.
4. A display device comprising in combination rotative spaced carrying wheels, said wheels being provided with a plurality of holes near their circumferences, a plurality of display panels, a pair of pivots arranged respectively at opposite ends of each of said panels, one pivot extending inwardly and the other pivot extending outwardly through a hole in said disks respectively, and a disk adjacent a Wheel adapted to be held in fixed spaced relation for detachably engaging the pivots in a wheel to hold the pivots in the holes of said wheel.

A display device comprising in combination rotative connected spaced carrying Wheels, a-series of display panels pivotally mounted adjacent to the circumference of the wheels and extending parallel to the axis of the latter, said panels being detachably mounted on the wheels, and a guard disk adjacent the points of connection of the panels with a wheel, mounted so to be moved to and from said carrying wheels to .retain the panels against displacement.

A display device comprising in comcarrying wheels provided with a plurality of apertures near their circumferences mounted on said shaft, a plurality of display panels each having a pair of pintles at opposite ends extending outwardly, guard disks slidably mounted on said shaft on the inner sides of said carrying wheels for detachably engaging said pintles to hold the latter in the apertures in said wheels, and a spring interposed between said guard disks to resiliently press said guard disks toward said carrying wheels.
8. A display device including a shaft suitably journalled on a frame, a pair of spaced carrying wheels mounted on said shaft, a series of display panels pivotally mounted on said wheels adjacent their circumference and extending parallel to the axis of the wheels, the panels each being detachably mounted on the Wheels, a disc secured on said shaft adjacent the points of connection of the panels to the Wheels to retain the panels on the wheels, means for advancing the wheels step by step, said means comprising an electromagnetically actuated lever pivoted on the frame and having a pawl thereon adapted to engage a' ratchet wheel fixed for rotation with one of the carrying wheels.
