Description
E. W. WALTER.
-SHOEHORN.,
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 16, 1921.

SHOEI-IORN.
Application filed September T0 all/whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERN WV. VVALTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVoOdlynne, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoehorns, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and novel construction in a shoe horn and has for its object the provision of a pulling device in combination with a shoe horn of ordinary or well known formation whereby the shoe may be pulled over the heel of the foot as the latter is guided into the shoe by the shoe horn proper.
Another object of the invention is to produce a pulling device in the form of a stirrup provided with a shank, the latter having a shoe horn of standard construction loosely and slidably mounted thereon by means of a projection with a hole therethrough registering with the shank, said projection acting as a finger holdwhereby the horn may be withdrawn from the shoe.-
With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of. elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which i Fig. 1, is a side elevation of a shoe, a portion of which is broken away and sectioned, illustrating the application of my improved shoe horn.
Fig- 2, is a front elevation of the shoe horn.
Fig. 3, is a plan view thereof.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied, 2 represents a pulling member preferably made from a single piece of wire and consisting of a shank 3 with a loop 4 to provide a hand hold at one or the upper end anda stirrup 5 at the other or lower end which is offset from the shank as shown in Fig. 1.
The reference numeral 6 denotes the shoe horn proper, hereinafter referred to as the Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb, 285 1922,
16, 1921. SerialNo. 501,117.
horn, which is of the standard or ordinary formation and at the upper end of this horn is produced a projection 7 arranged at a suitable angle to the body of the horn so that it may be used as a finger hold to withdraw the horn from the shoe. Said projection is provided with a hole 8 for registration with the shank of the pulling member whereby the horn is loosely and slidably mounted on the shank of said pulling member. The horn is not detachable from the pulling member.
The horn being loosely and slidably mounted with relation to the pulling member enables the user to first place the stirrup over the rearportion of the shoe and under the heel so that the crosspiece of the stirrup may be caused to engage the arch portion of the shoe and the front edge of the heel and then insert the horn within the shoe as plainly shown in Fig. 1.
Whenthe parts are in the positions described and illustrated the user places his foot in the shoe and then pulls upon the pulling member by means of the hand hold 4 which will cause the shoe to be drawn upon the foot, the horn guiding the heel of the foot into the shoe in the well known manner.
After the shoe is on the foot the horn 6 is withdrawn by gripping the finger hold 7 and sliding the same along the shank 3 and when said horn is withdrawn the pulling member may be removed from the shoe as will be obvious or the pulling member may be first disengaged from the shoe by sliding the shank thereof through the hole in the pro jection of the horn until released from the shoe heel and then thrown back after which the horn may be withdrawn.
0f course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is 1. A device of the character stated consisting of a pulling member comprising a shank having a loop at one end to produce a hand hold and an offset stirrup at the other end and a horn'undetachably, loosely and slidably mounted on the shan f the pulling member.
2-. In a device of this character, a pulling ing member to loosely and slidably mount member constructed from a single piece of said horn on the pulling member, said prowire consisting of a shank, a hand hold at jection forming a finger hold for the purpose 10 its upper end and a stirrup at the lower end stated.
5 offset from said shank and a horn provided In testimony whereof, I have hereunto with a. projection having a hole therethrou h afiixed my signature.
for registration with the shank of the pull- ERN W. WALTER.
