Description

I. LA MONTAGNE.
MEANS FOR ATTACHING HOSE SUPPORTERS T0 CORSETS.
APPLICATION FILED APR-1.192].
Patented Feb. 14, 1922.
- INVENTOR, [ban la flloniayrz :TTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVAN LA MONTAGNE, 0F SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
Application filed April 1,
To ctll whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, IVAN LA Monraenn, a citizen of the United States of America,
residing at Springfield, in the county of Hampd'en and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Attaching Hose Supporters to Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the means for attaching hose supporters to corsets, and more particularly to devices for securing the elastic bands of the hose supporters to the body part of the corset.
An object of the invention is to provide means, whereby the hose supporters will not become detached or separated from the corset when subjected to ordinary usage.
Broadly considered, the securing means contemplates the use of rivet devices each having a plurality of eyelets.
Further objects and nature of the devices will appear in the body of the specification, and will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view showing a portion of the lower edge of'the body part of a corset with the upper end of one of the elastic hose supporters folded and attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1 passing through one of the eyelets.
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of a modification in which two bands, or tapes, are used at the lower edge, one on the inner and one on the outer edge of the corset.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of Fig. 3 passing through one of the eyelets.
Referring to the drawings in detail: 1 designates the lower edge part of the body portion of a corset, 2 is a longitudinal strip of cloth that is secured on the inner surface by the stitches 3. 4 is a separate strip of tape, or other suitable material that is placed on the outer lower edge and is folded around below the lower edge of the garment, as indicated at 4, and upward on the inner surface as shown at 4 The upper end of the woven elastic hose supporter is indicated at 5. Its upper end is carried up over the upper edge of the strip 4, as indicated at 5, then downward between the body part 1 and the strip 4, as shown. The whole is then secured together by the stitches 6 and 7. In order to further strengthen this part of the Specification of Letters Patent.

structure and securely attach the elastic hose-supporter to the corset, a rivet device having the two eyelets 9 and 10 is employed. The eyelets are connected together by means of the metal bar part 8, as shown.
In Figs. 3 and 4 the lower edge of the corset is provided with the inner and outer strips of cloth, 11 and 12. The woven elastic hose supporters, one of which is shown at 13, are secured to the body part of the corsetby inserting the upper ends 13 between the outer strip 12 and the body part 1 as shown in section in Fig. 4. The whole is then secured together by the stitches 14, 15, and 16, after which the rivets are inserted, as shown.
In Figs. 1 and 2 the upper ends of the hose supporters, indicated at 5, are folded at 5, as shown. In Figs. 3 and 4 the upper ends 13 are not folded, but extend in the same plane as the rest of the supporters. The line of stress in Figs. 1 and 2, therefore, is not as direct as in Figs. 3 and 4.
It has been found in practice that the use of the rivet has materially strengthened the point at which the hose supporter is attached to the corset. Ordinary stitching gives away with slight strain, but when the rivet is used it has been found to stand greater strain than the body portion of the corset. The lower depending edge of the body part 1 of the garment is formed with straight sides,
as shown.
What I claim is:
1. A corset structure comprising a body part, a plurality of strips secured to the lower edge of said part, hose supporter members having their upper ends located between one of the strips and the body part of the corset, and means for attaching said members to the strips and body part comprising rivets having a plurality of eyelets, as described.
2. In a corset structure, devices for attaching a hose supporter thereto, said devices including two strips at the lower edge of the structure, and' rivets having a plurality of eyelets with a plate between the eyelets.
3. In a corset structure, means for attaching hose supporters thereto, said means in cluding bands on the inner and outer surfaces of the structure, the ends of the sup porters being located between one of the bands and-the body of the structure, rivet devices extending through the bands, the body part of the corset, and the supporters,
and stitches passed through and through said bands, body part, and supporters, as described, said secured ends of the structures being inserted Without folding or bending.
at. The combination with an article in which its lower edge is formed with straight depending sides of an elastic hose supporter,
strips on the inner and outer sides of the edge, the elastic hose supporters, strips and edge being all secured together by stitches 10 passed therethrough, and additional secur- "ing means comprising rivet devices passed through said hose supporter, strips and edge.
