Be it known that I, IVILLIAM IIJ'PEADEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and'useful Improvements in Counterbalancing and Adjustable Sashes for Windows, ofwhlch the following is a specification reference being had to the, accompanying drawings- It is the purpose of the to provide means on opposite sides of a winof counterbalanclng means and lower sashes of a wlndow casement, in.

The in vention having been set forth, what is claimed as being useful is:
'1. In a device for the purpose indicated,
the combination with a guide of a window casement, of upper and lower sashes mounted in said casement, hanger means operable in the guide and having operative connections with the lower rails of the up perand lower sashes, and adjustable sus pension means operatively mounted in the guide and being operatively connected: to
the hanger, whereby the hanger may be ad justed, and thereby adjust either one of the sashes when the other is held against movement. r
2. In a device for the purpose indicated, the combination with ,a window casement having opposite guides, of upper and lower sashes mounted in the easement, movable hangers operable in the guides and having operative connections with the lower rails ofboth sashes, whereby the sashes counterbalance each other, and means for movably suspending said hangers.
3. In a device for the purpose indicated, the combination with a window casement having opposite guides, of upper and lower sashes mounted in the easement, movable hangers operable in the guides and having operative connections with the lower rails of both sashes, whereby the sashes oounterbalance each other, and means for movably suspending said hangers, and means for holding said suspending means in different adjusted positions. I
4. In a device for the purpose indicated, the combination with a window casement having opposite'guides, of upperand lower sashes mounted in the casement, movable hangers operable in the guides and having operative connections with the lower rails of both sashes, whereby the sashes counterbalance each other, and: means for movably suspending said hangers, and means for holding said suspendingimeans in different adjusted positions, said holding means comprisinga projection, and a leaf spring secured to each guide and straddling the first jection to hold it in different adjusted positions. V
I 5. The combination with, a window casement having parting strips provided with guide channels therein, of hangers movably suspended in said channels and having operative counterbalancing connections with the lower rails of the upper and lower sashes, and means for suspending said hangers.
6. The combination with a window casement having parting. strips provided with guide channels therein, of hangers'movably suspended in said channels and having operative counterbalancing connections with the lower rails of the upper and lower sashes, and means for suspending said hangers, said suspending means comprising strands operatively connected to the hangers and having portions movable over the top of the channels, and adapted to be actuated I signature.
7. The combination with a window casement having parting strips provided with guide channels therein, of hangers movably suspended in said channels and having operative counter-balancing connections with the lower rails of the upper and lower sashes, and means for suspending said hangers, said suspending means comprising strands operatively connected to the hangers and having portions movable over the top of the channels, and adapted to be actuated for adjusting the hangers in said channels, for ad usting one or the other of the sashes, and means for holding said sash operating strands in different adjusted positions.
