Description

A. J. NORTHCRAFT.
SPOOL RACK. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 21, 1921- I. w a j Patented Feb. 7, 1922.
AMIBRO J. NORTHCRAFT, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
SPOOL RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 21, 1921. Serial No. 446,746.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMBRo J. NORTH- CRAFT, a citizen of the United States, and
resident of the city of St. Louis and State.
of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool Racks, of which the following is a specification, containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in spool racks, and has for its principal object the construction of a rack to hold spools of thread, balls of crochet material, and the like, so as to prevent the tangling of the material while being used.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a face view of my improved rack with a series of spools of thread mounted thereon;
Fig. 2 is an end view;
- Fig. 3 is a face view having applied thereon balls of crochet material;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the thread or ball holder removed from the rack; and
Fig. 5 is a view of a holder for spools or balls of crochet material.
Referring to the drawings:
6 indicates the base of the rack and 7 and 8 indicate the ends thereof. The base is flat and the ends are tapering, as illustrated, and the entire rack is formed out of spring metal, by stamping and forming.
In the end 7 of the rack I form a series of slots 9, 10, 11 and 12. These slots terminate in rounded openings 13 which answer as bearings for the rod on which the spools of material are mounted.
In the end 8, directly opposite the slots 9, 10, 11 and 12, I forn. circular openings 14. In the end 7 and along the margin thereof, opposite to the margin in which the slots 9, 10, 11 and 12 are formed, I form a series of circular openings similar to the openings 14, and in the end 8 and along the margin opposite-to the margin in which the circular openings 14 are formed, I form a series of slots similar to the slots 9, 10, 11
and 12. This is for the purpose of permitting the withdrawal of the spool holder from the right-hand side, regardless of the face from which the operator works.
Intermediate of the slots and circular openings above referred to, I form a series of circular openings '15, 16 and 17, these being for the purpose of inserting and supporting the holder 18, which is intended for the balls of crochet material, this holder 18 beingprovided at each end with the projections 19, which may be inserted in said openings.
20 indicates the holder for the spools of thread 21, and'the spools of crochet material 22. This holder is provided at each end with right- angular bent portions 23 and 24, and adjacent the right-angular portion 24 I form in the holder 20 aflattened or thin portion 25, this flattened or thin portion 25 corresponding in thickness to the Widths of the slots 9, 10, 11 and 12.
In the use of my device, the spools of thread 21 or the spools of crochet material 22, as the case may be, are inserted on the holder 20 and the right-angled portion 23 is then inserted in the circular openings 14 of the end 8 of the rack, and the flattened or thin portion 25 is then inserted in either of the slots 9, 10,- 11 or 12, and is seated in the circular portions 13 in which said ends terminate. When this has been done, the rack is ready for use. In the illustration I have provided for five rows of spools of thread. Of course, if desired, the rack may be made smaller or larger, as occasion may require.
In case it is desired touse the device for heavy crochet spools, they are placed on the holder 18 and the holder 18 is inserted in the circular openings 15, 16 and 17.
Adjacent the base of the rack I have made provision to hold an extra holder 20, and if the thread on one of the holders has been used, it may be placed therein for future use.
It will be observed from the foregoing description that I have provided a cheap, inexpensive and convenient rack for the holding of thread or crochet material and the like, ready for use, and which will prevent its tangling when in use.
I-laving fully described my invention, what I claim is:
A rack for holding thread, and the like, comprising a rack proper stamped from sheet metal and having resilient tapered ends, in one margin of which are formed a series of vertically disposed circular openings, and a holder provided on each end with a right-angular bent portion and adjacent one of said right angular bent portions provided with a flat portion adapted to pass into said slots.
In testimony whereof, I' have signed my name to this specification.
AMBRO J. NORTHCRAFT.
