Be it known that I', IRA C. Woon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pasadena, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Colored Lighting Systems, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a colored lighting system adapted to produce,` novel lighting effects for theatrical and display purposes.
It is the object of the invention to provide a lighting system wherein different coloredl rays of light are blended to produce ornamental designs simulating flowers, drapery and the like. 1
The invention will be readily understood' from the following description of the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a practical embodiment of the invention. Fig. 2 is a section through the same upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation showing a different form of the invention. l
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a somewhat diagrammatic showing of the testing means employed in blending the colors of the lighting system.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, a screen is' shown at 1 mounted upon suitable framing 2. A gutter 3 is formed in front of the screen at the base thereof and extending the width of the screen. This gutter may be formed by the angle strip 4 suitably secured to framing 2.
A plurality of usual incandescent lamps provided with uncolored lamp bulbs are arranged within gutter 3 along the same. The rays of light from lamps 5 are adapted to be projected upwardly-across screen 1 in .order to produce novel lighting effects upon said screen. For this-purpose a plurality of different colored light screens are arranged in gutter 3 in front of the lamps 5 in order to produce different colored rays of light projected across screen 1.
The light screens, preferably, consist of transparent uncolored bulbs 6 arranged to be removably supported in sockets 7 arranged along framing 2 within gutter 3. Different colored liquids 8 are contained within the bulbs 6 so that said bulbs will form different colored light screens.

will be appreciably weaker than the rays 80 of lightA', B', C', etc. As a consequence the various rays of light will be intimately blended to produce a color effect of subdued tones simulating a silken tapestry or the like. Y
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, a screen 1() is mounted upon a frame 1l and is provided with a central opening 12. A hollow shaft 13 is rotatably mounted in rearvof opening 12 and is provided with a plate 14 in rear of said opening.r rlhe shaft .13 may be rotated by any suitable means shown as comprising a pulley 15. A conduit 16 for electric wiring extendst-hrough the hollow shaft 13 in order that an electrical connection may be provided for a usual incandescent lamp 17, preferably, having an uncolored light bulb and mounted upon the plate 14 atthe axis thereof.

A colored light/inn system including a screen, a plurality of sources of light, different colored light screens in front of and in alinernent with said sources of light, different colored light screens in front of and between said sources of light, said light screens adapted to project rays of light in different colored paths across said screen, the paths of colors formed by said lights being such as to cause blending of said colors.
