AUTOMATIC SPRING OIIDER- Patented Jana MD, 11922.,
Application filed October 18, 1920, Serial No. 416,756. Renewed November 28,4921. Serial Ito. 518,494. I
scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention is an automatic device to oil leaf springs of vehicles, especially automobiles, and is accomplished byplacing a thick felt pad saturated with oil, and'into which is inserted a hollow perforated tube on the top of a leaf spring and around which is wrapped around the pad and thespring an adhesive tape to shut out any dirt or grit from the outside, the workings of the springs while in action automatically dis tributes the oil inside of the'springs and a more detailed description in four figures in an accompanying drawing as follows:
Figure I is a perspective viewof the portion of the leaf spring on which my improvement is attached. V
Figure H is a longitudinal sectional view of the spring showing a sectional view of the improvement with the tape removed and showing the pad and the tube inserted and placed in position. a
Figure III is a detail view of the oiling tube with the cap removed.
Figure'IV is a detail view of the cap of the oiling tube.
In a detail description youwill' note that the porous pad (10) is applied along the top I of the springs (11) and is of sufiicient length and widthto cover the ends and top of the leaves (12) of the springs (11). Into this pad is inserted a hollow perforated tube. (13) the fitting or oiling end (14) of the tube (13) is bent upwardly so that the same is exposed in the finished state ofthe improvements.
'lhe pad, tube and side and top of the spr ngs .(ll) are then wrapped with adhes ve tape (15) with the end of the tube exposed with a cap. Perforations (17)are made in the tube (13) to permit the escape of the oil from the tube (13). The pad (10) becomes saturated with the oil within the same by the movements and actions of the sprmgs (11) and passes downward around the sides and ends of the springs (11) and the springs are kept oiled.
The wrappings (1.5) excludes from the oil and springs all dirt and grit. If preferred a leather casing may be used iii place of tape.
I claim: c
1. A spring oiler' for use in connection with a leaf spring, comprising a porous padding, applied to the top of the spring and extending toward the' ends thereof, and an elongated perforated tube passing longitudinally through the padding and provided with means for filling the same.
2. A spring oiler for use in connection with a leaf spring, comprising a porous padding, applied to the top of the spring and extending towardthe ends thereof, and an elongated perforated tube passing longitudinally' through the padding and provided with means for filling the same and a covering for the padding tube and the end of the spring such covering composing an adhesive tape wrapped about the addin and 8 ring.
